Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 1 Corinthians 12: 12

September 2, 2016

Dear North Community Catholic School Parents:

Welcome to the end of the second full week of school!  It was a pleasure to see everyone last night at our annual open house event.  Next Friday we have a very special event taking place.  In honor of National Grandparents' Day on September 11, our parents' association is sponsoring a grandparent/grandfriend day for our school.  Grandparents or other special family friends are welcome to attend Mass with us at 8:30 a.m., and then we will host a reception for the grandparents and their students in the gym and Kelly room.  Grandparents should meet their students in the church before Mass, and they can sit together.  We will have pews reserved.  About 10:00 a.m., following the reception students will head back to their classrooms.  A flier will come home with your students on Tuesday so that you can RSVP your grandparents or guests.  Please RSVP by Thursday so that we can set up appropriately.

On Sunday, September 4, Pope Francis will declare Mother Teresa of Calcutta a Saint.  Our beautiful statue depicting Mother Teresa that normally is found inside of the elementary building doors is in a place of honor in our church this weekend.  Mother Teresa is such a wonderful example of showing love and compassion to the poor and vulnerable for all of us!  Her canonization should be a joyous occasion for all of us and a wonderful reminder to us of our obligation to be good stewards of God's gifts to us, always showing care for those in need.

Monday, September 5, is Labor Day, a free day for us.  I hope all of our families enjoy a restful and fun holiday weekend!

    Peace and Blessings,
Mrs. Beth Strbik
Principal

Important information for all school volunteers:
Our school community welcomes and encourages volunteerism.  Many events depend on support from volunteers, and we need your support.  The Diocese of Toledo has adopted new policies regarding volunteers who come in contact with students.  Please click here and carefully read the new requirements for ALL volunteers who work with students.

Important attendance information:
State law requires parents to notify school when their child is absent.  If your child needs to be absent from school or will be arriving late due to an appointment, please call the school before 8:30 a.m.

Aidan Jagielski, Tosja'Nay Holmes and Nevaeh Cable practiced the virtues of justice and prudence when a classmate spilled water on the floor, these three got up without hesitation to wipe it  up.  Way to be of service to a classmate!

What a wonderful mass today with putting the kneelers up and down quietly and putting the books into the pew holders.  You were quieter than adults at weekend masses!

Thank you to all of the 8th grade boys who volunteered to set up chairs after school for the parent meeting last night and who put them away this morning.  I love the way you volunteered to serve our school.

NCCS Facebook
Dear Parents,

We have created Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts for NCCS, the North Community Catholic School.  The purpose of these accounts will be to share all of the amazing things happening at the St. Catherine's Early Childhood Education Center Campus, Regina Coeli Campus, and Most Blessed Sacrament Campus through one public account.  By following NCCS on Facebook, you will also find events from all of the schools and parishes which will strengthen our NCCS community.  Feel free to send any pictures you take of our schools to owayton@nccstoledo.org or tag us in the post.  Please follow us at the North Community Catholic School Facebook Page, Twitter: @nccs_toledo, Instagram: @nccstoledo Hashtag is #NCCSToledo.  Also, please visit our website at www.nccstoledo.org!

Gym Clothes
All NCCS students in grades 2-8 must have official NCCS physical education uniforms to wear in PE class.  Students dress in their school uniforms and change for gym into the PE uniform.   You can order these uniforms at www.jazztextiles.com.   Select the online store, and our access code is BSNCCS.

Also available at this site are school uniform approved full zip fleece jackets and 1/4 zip pull over fleece to keep our kids warmer during the colder months, in adult sizes as well.  Like the gym uniform, they can be ordered any time and will be delivered to the school.

Fall Sports Sign-Up Change
Our students have the ability to participate in a variety of sports through the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish CYO athletic program.  Since the athletic program runs through the parish, not our school, you can find information about athletics on the parish website at www.blessedsacramenttoledo.com under "activities and events" and "youth board."  Fall sports include cross country, volleyball, football, flag football, soccer, and cheerleading.
Sign-ups are done electronically with instructions posted under the website listed above.

SCRIP
Shopping for groceries, filling the tank with gas, eating at a favorite restaurant....These routine things we do every week have proven to be a great way for Blessed Sacrament parents to shave off money from their child's tuition.  You purchase gift cards or certificates from places you shop at anyway and the discount goes back to your child's tuition.  More than 200 local businesses participate in the SCRIP program.  Families who purchase the certificates can designate that their portion be applied to their tuition bill.  To purchase SCRIP, contact Katie at khoops@emich.edu or phone her at 419-438-0476.

Recycleable Collection Items

"The Environmental Club would like to remind you that we collect the following items to send to Terracycle in exchange for money.  The money earned is used for supplies for our Religion classes and to purchase peanut butter, jelly, and bread for the lunchroom for students who forget their lunch.  We have listed the items acceptable to recycle.  Please send them in with your child.  We ask that you continue saving the items during the summer vacation.  Thank you to those who have been assisting us already."
