The
Clermont Transportation Connection
(CTC) has several openings for full-time and part-time CDL vehicle operators, as well as full-time non-CDL vehicle operator/CDL trainees.
"We're looking for applicants who enjoy driving and like to help people," said CTC Director Lisa Gatwood. "Our bus drivers pride themselves on their customer service."
CTC provides bus service for Clermont County residents. It offers both fixed-route buses that go between New Richmond and Amelia and downtown Cincinnati Monday-Friday during commute hours, as well as door-to-door routes through its Dial-A-Ride service.

Remembering lives lost to suicide
Join us Wednesday, Sept. 14, when the Clermont County Suicide Prevention Coalition hosts its 15th
annual candlelight vigil to remember, honor, and cherish the lives of those individuals lost to suicide in Clermont County over the past year. Anyone whose life has been touched by suicide is welcome to attend and pay tribute to their loved one.

127 in summer youth jobs program
|

Our 2016 Summer Youth Employment Program had a record number of participants: 48 employers hired 127 young people from throughout Clermont County.
County school districts again stepped up, hiring 79 teens. As employers in the community, school districts directly help their own students by offering them summer jobs.
Empower Youth,
a non-profit based in Bethel, hired five youth this summer. Find out more about Empower and the teens they hired, whose work helped contribute to their community.

Tire amnesty day Sept. 10
|
|
The Adams-Clermont Solid Waste District and Jackson Township Trustees are sponsoring a FREE scrap tire collection event 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. The drop-off is at 3347 U.S. 50, just east of Aber Road. (This is not the Township Hall/Fire Department.) A second amnesty day will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 8
at Adams Waste & Recycling, 95 Trefz Road, West Union.
This event is to help clean up scrap tires in the community and may be the last free opportunity to do so. Businesses and individuals that generate tires as part of their normal course of business are not eligible as this is not a program to subsidize used tire shops and trucking companies. Tires on rims and agricultural tires will be accepted. Questions? Call 513.732.7745.

September reminder: Have a plan ready

September is National Preparedness Month. This is the time of year to review the four steps of preparedness to ensure you are ready for disaster:
Get a kit: Have at least a three-day supply of food, water, and medicinal needs. Don't forget your pets!
Make a plan: How will you contact family/friends during an emergency? Make a communications plan today!
Be informed: Know the hazards of the area(s) where you live and work.
Get involved: Volunteer, take first aid training, or participate in community exercises.

Disaster workshop for small businesses

Disasters, and the interruption of services they cause, cost time, money and resources. In fact, studies show that one in four businesses do not reopen after a disaster.

Retired Justice Stratton brings Stepping Up Initiative to Clermont County
Members of Clermont County's Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and others met with Retired Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton Aug. 26 at the Batavia Township Community Center to find out more about the Stepping Up Initiative in Ohio. Stepping Up is a national project to reduce the number of mentally ill people in jail through better intervention services and professional training. (Clermont County supports this initiative, and has collaborated on this issue for several years.) Monarch butterflies could use your help! The
Ohio Pollinator Habitat I
nitiative
(OPHI) is asking the public to collect and drop off common and swamp milkweed seed pods from established plants from Sept. 1-Oct. 30 at collection stations around the state. The seeds will be used to establish new plantings and create additional habitat for the monarch butterfly throughout Ohio in the coming years. Clermont Soil and Water Conservation District will collect the pods at its office at the Clermont County Fairgrounds, 1000 Locust St., Owensville, OH 45160. Read more here.

WANT TO QUIT SMOKING? Clermont County Public Health is offering a free tobacco cessation class to the public 5:30-6:45 p.m. Sept. 19 at 2400 Clermont Center Drive, Suite 103, Batavia. The class will be led by a public health nurse and tobacco treatment specialist. The class will cover the health and financial effects of tobacco use, education about nicotine addiction, withdrawal symptoms, FDA-approved medications and the basics of a quit plan.
