A New Tradition Begins

Campus Minister, Brian Cobb, has begun a new tradition at Garces - an "intentions cross". Before every football game, the cross will be available for students to write "intentions" and the student body will pray for the intentions written on the cross. Before every home game, the cross will be painted - but the intentions will always be there - under a fresh coat of paint.  So every home game, we will pray for the new intentions along with the old. The cross will be present at Sam Tobias Field at every home football game for parents and fans to add their intentions to the cross.  As time and logistics permit, it is our hope to have the intentions cross present at least once for all of our sports teams who play on campus.

Almost every senior at Garces gives the same advice to incoming freshman - "Get involved.  Do everything. Go outside your comfort zone. Make the most of your years at Garces." That is great advice for our students as well as our parents.  Senior parents will attest that the first three years fly by!  So we will do our best to keep our parents informed of all the activities we have planned.  Please encourage your student to be involved and join us too when you can.  The students who came to the ASB tailgate and joined The Herd for the Mission Bowl were amazing!  We will do it again for the Tehachapi game on the 9th.  We have Bishop Ochoa celebrating Mass of the Holy Spirit on Wednesday, September 14th.  Our parents are always welcome to celebrate Mass with us. On Friday, September 16th is our Holy Bowl Night Rally and we encourage our parents to attend - students sit on one side of the gym and the parents sit on the other side.  And there will be parents taking part in the rally - you won't want to miss it!  We will have Holy Bowl T-shirts and we encourage all of our students to purchase one and wear it to the rally and to the games. Saturday, September 17th is the Holy Bowl and we will play our sister school, San Joaquin Memorial, in volleyball, girls tennis, girls golf, water polo and football.  Please come to campus and watch some of the contests - you will be so proud of our Rams and how they conduct themselves while they compete and while they cheer for their fellow Rams. Club Day is September 20th.  In the September 16th newsletter, we will list all the clubs that will have tables out during lunch.  Clubs are student driven, so if your child has an idea for a club - have him or her see Ms. Witwer.  And please come to the Fall BBQ on Friday, September 23rd.  it is a great night on our campus and an opportunity to see other parents and alumni on our campus.  Freshman Retreat is September 24th-25th and will be held at Garces.  If you are a freshman parent, and have questions, please contact our Director of Campus Ministry, Mr. Brian Cobb.  And our Open House for Future Rams is on Sunday, September 25th.  Please encourage families that have an 8th grader to come to our Open House to hear more about what it means to be part of the Garces Family.

Hope to see you a Garces event soon!
