Thank you for taking the time to complete our recent survey on how to best design the 15% HOME Program set-aside for Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) to ensure that non-profit organizations can successfully develop low-income housing in Alabama. We truly value the information you have provided, and your input will be vital in helping us prepare future HOME Action Plans and training opportunities.
Key Findings:
- Confirmation of a critical need statewide for affordable, decent, safe rental housing for individuals and families
- Respondents said the biggest limitations to applying for CHDO funding were:
- Understanding the application process
- Application fees
- AHFA Plans have not permitted the use of AHFA HOME funds within other Participating Jurisdictions in the state. As the service areas of some non-profit organizations lie within other Participating Jurisdictions, the opportunity for those organizations to apply for AHFA HOME funds is restricted.
- More than 84% of respondents said they would favor a partnership with another non-profit organization to meet low-income housing needs in their area
- Staying up-to-date on the latest news and training opportunities is vital. Be sure you are receiving and reading our monthly newsletter, Thresholds, which is published around the first of each month. Also, follow AHFA on Facebook. All of the latest program updates, deadlines and training opportunities are posted in Thresholds and on Facebook. Ensure others who are interested in affordable housing are also signed up for Multifamily Notices (including Thresholds) by telling them to sign up at http://bit.ly/2bFWQjD.
Our 2017 Draft Allocation Plan will be released soon. Please review it and share it with any other entities you think may be interested in affordable housing in Alabama. Please submit your comments on the Draft Plan during the Public Commenting Period. If you have any questions or would like more information about CHDOs, please contact us at ahfa.mf.chdo@ahfa.com.
Again, thank you for your participation.
