9/11 MEMORIALmemorial911
Reflect, Remember and Honor
I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to Patrick Reilly and Ben Reilly for organizing this year's 9/11 Memorial.  Also, THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped prepare and take down the memorial.

Today we commemorate the events that happened 15 years ago on September 11, 2001.  It was a scary and sad time for all of us as many people died in New York City, Virginia, and Pennsylvania that morning due to terrible choices made by a number of people who strongly disagreed with our country's leaders and what the United States stands for.  But instead of focusing on this tragic event, we should consider the lessons we learned from 9/11:
Immediately after these events 14 years ago, good people around the world showed their kindness and love for each other by reaching out and helping save lives and support families who were hurt by this event.  Fire fighters and police officers in particular showed great courage in risking their own lives to save others.  Americans put aside their differences by coming together and showing the power of patriotism by reaching deep into their souls and finding the strength to love and help their neighbor no matter the color of their skin, their religious background, or how much money they had.  It didn't matter.  All that mattered was that we were all Americans and we would stick together.

So, again what are the lessons?  We must show each other kindness and love.  We must have the courage to do the right thing and protect and defend each other.  We have to put aside differences and care for each other equally which sometimes means sacrifice.

I hope you will keep these thoughts in your mind as you reflect about the events of September 11, 2001.

Thank you for all you do Milton students, faculty, and staff.

SOAR BEGINS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13SOAR
SOAR WILL START TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13!
On Monday, September 12, in homeroom, your student will receive a schedule of their SOAR classes. The schedule will indicate: day, SOAR class, teacher & classroom. If your student wants to make a change to their SOAR class, they will have an opportunity from September 12 - September 16 to make this change. They can pick up a SOAR change form in 1360. They need to return their form to Mrs. Mallon, in 1360, by 3:30pm on Friday, September 16. After September 16, all SOAR changes will be made for academic reasons per their teacher or administrator. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Mallon at mallon@fultonschools.org.

What is SOAR?
SOAR is a class period that will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students have an opportunity to receive academic help, gain enrichment in an academic class, or expand their horizons in a class they find interesting. We have built this time into our school schedule to provide every student this academic opportunity. On Tuesdays and Thursdays students will be in SOAR from 2:48PM to 3:30PM.
How are the SOAR classes selected?
Teachers were asked to provide 3 classes they would be interested in teaching. We had 275 options, which the students were then able to choose 3 they liked. Of the 275 options, we have 125 different SOAR classes taking place each Tuesday and Thursday. We have academic help sessions like Biology help, Algebra 2 help, or 11th American Literature help. We also have various enrichment courses: Healthcare Science enrichment, AP & Advanced Open Studio, and Creative Writing. Lastly, we are providing students with numerous specialized opportunities - these are interest classes - ie. 3D printing, book club, ESPN watchers, and Pre Med.
What if my child wants to change their SOAR class?
They will have ONE opportunity to change their SOAR class. They will receive their new schedule on Monday, September 12. From September 12 to September 16, they can pick up a SOAR change form in 1360. They need to complete the form and return it to Mrs. Mallon (in 1360) by September 16th. Once the change has been made, your child will receive a new schedule. After September 16, SOAR changes will ONLY be made for academic reasons, and will be determined by your child's teacher and administration.

Exemptions: These students are exempt from SOAR classes: seniors who have turned in an Early Release form, work-based learning, internships, College English, and students who have shortened schedules.

Have questions about SOAR? Please feel free to email Mrs. Mallon at mallon@fultonschools.org  with any SOAR questions.
