September 2016

It's September...um, how did we get to September already! What happened to our summer? Why has it been so oppressively hot? Will we get some mild temperatures before the dip into the chill of winter?

I can't answer those questions, but I can certainly help you with your burning (no pun intended!) organizing dilemmas.

Read on for a fresh perspective on how the change of seasons can help you with your organizational goals.
2,4,6,8...What Do We Appreciate?

You'll notice I didn't say "Who" do we appreciate. That's because there are little everyday things that we appreciate that can make us happy.

There is a lot to appreciate at this time of year. Here are some that I enjoy:

Fairs and Festivals
Flea Markets
Cozy Sweaters
Tofurky and Pumpkin Pie
Jersey Sheets

Are you wondering why I'm talking about this stuff? Bear with me another minute!  Write down the things that you enjoy about this time of year.

Now...let's translate those into how they can motivate you to start (or finish!) your organizing projects.
Fall Organization Motivation!

Here are just a couple of ideas:

1) Back to School - The kiddos are back in school, or soon will be, so that may give those of you who work from home the opportunity to get some of those rooms in order that were put to great use in the summer.

Tip! Start in one corner, with one drawer, cabinet or shelf. If you find yourself needing bins or other organizational products, jot them down along with measurements for the area. Don't let not having them stop you from moving on to the next section. When you have your final list, search your home for bins and other organizational items that may work in one of the areas.  If you can't find it in your home, head to a low cost retailer to find them.

2) School Supplies - You got them for your kids, and you deserve a few supplies yourself. Treat yourself to inexpensive sticky notes and gel pens in your favorite colors. This can make writing out those to-do lists a bit more fun!

3) Pumpkin Spice (...everything!) - Some of you love pumpkin spice foods, and there are a lot coming out right now. If you're a fan, set a morning routine with a Pumpkin Spice Latte (or a waffle!) while you plan your day or week.

4) Shopping - Uh uh, it's not what you're thinking! I'm not encouraging you to shop in stores, I'm encouraging you to shop your closet! Did you know that you wear only about 20% of your clothes 80% of the time?  What's that other 80% doing for you?  Maybe you forgot about some of the pieces, and you can blend them into your  clothing repertoire.  Or maybe they are just hanging there, wasting space. Look at that group and be a little ruthless and start purging.

Tip! If you want to sell or consign some of your clothes, really give it some thought. Do you really want to spend your time listing items online that may not sell or gathering clothes to be consigned that may not be accepted by the consignor.

I hope you learned some good ideas.  Feel free to reach out and ask me about helping you get your home organized for the fall! The holidays will be here before you know it!

Have a great day, .

Stay Neat!
