She says the work belongs to all of us-participants and those who watched the event online or read about it in Living Lutheran.

The Los Angeles Times loves
Captain of the Bible Quiz Team

"A church is a community - a family, even. When a member is in crisis, others step forward with prayers, words of encouragement, helping hands and Jell-O salads.
Prolific Los Angeles playwright Tom Jacobson marvelously assembles such a family in the course of his new play
Captain of the Bible Quiz Team, presented by Rogue Machine in churches in West L.A., North Hollywood and Los Feliz."

A one-person performance about the recent historical events surrounding the ELCA sexuality statement and a rural Minnesota church's crisis in dealing with that change, Captain of the Bible Quiz Team is a touching and nuanced and a tour-de-force for the performer - four very different actors, men and women, rotate in the role of Pastor Landry Sorenson. The show is "immersive" in that the audience participates in hymns and various small ways and acts as the "congregation" for Pastor Landry at the pulpit.

More information, including performance, location, and tickets, can be found here

Bishop Guy Erwin will carry Luther's message all around the Southwest California Synod with a series of six paired lectures, presented on various Saturdays from September 2016 to July 2017.  For each session, the first lecture will be an introduction to Martin Luther.  Lunch will be served, followed by an in-depth lecture about Luther's teachings. Come hear one, or come hear all; the in-depth lecture will be different every time!

Each Reformation Roadtrip event will be held from 10:00 a.m to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per event, or $50 for all six. Please bring payment in cash or check the day of the event. Checks should be made out to the Southwest California Synod.

To make your reservations for one or more Reformation Roadtrip events, please contact Jason Ramirez at [email protected].

Facilitated by Tom Schwolert of Vibrant Faith Ministries

It's time! It's time for every church to commit to adult faith formation. The transmission of faith to the next generation lies not in our work with children and youth, but rather with adults.
Spend a day exploring effective adult faith formation in the congregation.

You'll come away with . . .
  • A renewed vision for empowering adults in their journey of faith
  • A host of methods and strategies that you can customize and integrate into your congregation
  • An introduction to a plethora of resources already tested and proven to enhance adult faith formation  A positive experience of adult learning and growth for yourself.
This event is for Small Group leaders, Council, Teachers and ALL who want to help others grow in faith!

$40 on or before September 3; $60 after September 3
$35 for groups of 3 or more from the same congregation
Morning hospitality & lunch provided

Tom Schwolert graduated from Luther Seminary with a Master in Children, Youth and Family Ministry. He joined the Vibrant Faith team after 26 years of youth and family ministry in churches. He brings real passion to his training as he helps others learn to be faith builders in their everyday life. Tom successfully helped the four churches he served shift from being program-based to being intergenerational and relationally focused. He has the ability to assess and move church from current realities to using the power of family for the movement of the Spirit in people of all ages.
