UFTI Professor Begins Work on New NSF Grant

   
UFTI Professor Yafeng Yin and UF Department of Economics Professor Steven Slutsky have begun work on a new National Science Foundation (NSF) grant, studying on-demand, ride-sourcing companies and their impacts on the more heavily regulated taxi industry. Ride-sourcing companies such as Uber and Lyft provide ride-hailing applications that intelligently source private car owners who drive their own vehicles to provide taxi services for profit to riders... Fellowship Spotlight: Pedro Adorno Maldonado

   
In high school, Pedro Adorno Maldonado dreamed of becoming a civil engineer, and thanks to an impressive academic record, he was accepted to the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM) in Fall 2010 to pursue a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. For the next five years, he participated in research and internships related to the civil engineering field. In December of 2015, Adorno completed his bachelor's degree in civil engineering with honors (Cum Laude), which included a certification in project management. STRIDE Interns Present Final Projects

   
Students participating in the internship program hosted by the Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development & Education (STRIDE) Center housed at the UFTI, concluded their program on Friday, July 28, 2016 with recorded live, online presentations related to their individualize summer projects. The STRIDE Center is the 2012 regional (Southeast) US Department of Transportation (USDOT) grant-funded University Transportation Center (UTC). Learn more here.

LTAP Listening Sessions  


The Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) is a jointly funded effort between the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to provide local governments with training, information, technology, and direct assistance in order to help improve their transportation infrastructure. Florida's LTAP program resides at the UFTI's T2 Center. To best serve the state of Florida, the T2 Center LTAP has been meeting with local government employees involved in the transportation process. McTrans Highway Capacity Analysis Webinar Series

   
This webinar series presents lectures, software demonstrations and application examples on the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) procedures - including updates coming in the 6th Edition. Step-by-step instruction of the HCM methodologies will be provided for each analytical chapter. The Highway Capacity Software (HCS) implements and automates the HCM procedures. T2 Center's Nina Barker Retires After Almost Twenty Years at UF

   
It is bitter sweet goodbye, but after 19 years of service the T2 Center's Assistant Director Nina Barker is retiring. She plans to travel to Georgia and Indiana to  fish, craft and spend time with her family, especially her husband. We thank her for all that she has done. UFTI External Advisory Board Member Named Florida Transportation Commission's Next Executive Director

   
UFTI's EAB member Matthew Ubben, who has been president of Floridians for Better Transportation (FBT) for the last four years, has been named the executive director of the Florida Transportation Commission. In his new post, Ubben "will work with nine governor-appointed board members from throughout the state to provide leadership to meet Florida's transportation needs through policy guidance on issues of statewide importance and by maintaining oversight and public accountability for the Department of Transportation," the FTC press release indicated. UFTI External Advisory Board Member Named Executive Director of the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District in Norcross, Georgia

   
Recently, board members of the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District (GVCID) voted in a specially called meeting to hire Marsha Anderson Bomar to fill the position of executive director. "As the gateway to Gwinnett, the Village has a great opportunity and responsibility," she said. "I look forward to working with staff as well as partners old and new to realize the full potential of the District." Anderson Bomar began her new position on June 1st.
