Proposed Governance Model & Updated Bylaws
Carlos Bell, President
ACPE Colleagues,

The Organizational Design Work Group (ODWG) began its work mid-2014. With the help of Donna Dunn from Tecker International, the work group dialogued with you through various modes: surveys, online forums, regional meetings and a national conference dedicated to transformational leadership.

On August 10, 2016 the Board of Representatives met to review the final proposed governance model from the ODWG. At the conclusion of the discussion, the Board passed the following motion:

"I move that the ACPE Board of Representatives accept the recommendations of the Organizational Design Work Group with revisions by the Board of Representatives for approval by the membership through a vote on bylaws this fall. And that the Organizational Design Work Group be dismissed with our greatest thanks for their dedication and commitment to ACPE."

The motion passed unanimously.

With further help from consultants and attorneys, we now present to you the revised report received by the Board (which includes the proposed model) and the revised bylaws. The proposed model has been compared to an architect's blueprint. It provides the basic structure but the details will still be determined by an implementation work group (general contractor). Similarly, we've been advised to simplify our bylaws so they contain only the fundamentals, like a house foundation. Simplified bylaws will allow future boards and leaders the flexibility to address potential opportunities and challenges.

We still want to hear your feedback! The proposed model will not be adopted until the membership approves the bylaws changes in an electronic vote in November. Please send me your thoughts at ACPERedesign@acpe.edu until October 21st. Our executive director, board members and ODWG members will also be present at all of the regional meetings to continue our dialogue.

I look forward to completing this journey with you which we started together more than two years ago. I am confident that ACPE is building an association to lead our movement for another 50 years.

Kindest regards,

President, ACPE
