People with Pain Matter is a national campaign and online community dedicated to raising public awareness of the impact of chronic pain on 100 million Americans.

By working with healthcare providers, policymakers, candidates and the media, People with Pain Matter seeks to advance policies and drive a national dialogue about the need for a national investment in effective, long-term pain management therapies.

For starters, did you know the NIH allocates less than 1% of its funding to developing new therapies for chronic pain? That must change. People with pain deserve treatment, not labels.

Together, we can stop the stigmatization and marginalization of people with pain.

People with pain matter.

Pain Awareness Month is Upon Us!
September 1, 2016
Dear Members and Fellow Pain Warriors,

Pain Awareness Month is here, and everyone at U.S. Pain is excited about all of the opportunities for individuals to feel empowered by becoming involved and taking action. To make participating and learning about events throughout the nation easier to navigate, we launched a new website for the month: uspainawarenessmonth.com

We encourage each of you to take the 2016 U.S. Pain Awareness Pledge and support the various campaigns,  challenges and events planned over the next 30 days.

#WeArePainWarriors and together, we will make sure people with pain are heard. People with pain matter.

Thank you for your strength, and courage. Keep advocating for yourself and others ... knowing you are not alone on this journey. We are there with you.  Happy Pain Awareness Month!

Wishing you all a low-pain and high-spirits day,
Paul Gileno
Founder & President, U.S. Pain Foundation

Take The Pain Awareness Month Pledge

The Pain Awareness Month Pledge is a way to unite pain warriors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, lawmakers, and others in the form of an online promise.

By electronically signing the pledge, you are empowering the pain community while supporting the organization's mission. It is  a simple way to show the nation that chronic pain is a disease, which needs to be addressed through policies, education and fair access to treatments.

We hope that you will join us in our effort to eliminate the discrimination and stigmas within society when it comes to invisible illnesses.

Last year, 895 individuals signed the pledge. We are hopeful that we can surpass that number by leaps and bounds in 2016!

Pain Awareness Month Proclamations

State Proclamations have been an ongoing initiative of U.S. Pain Foundation's Pain Awareness Month campaign. Feeling it was important to call upon key lawmakers to stand with their constituents during September, the U.S. Pain Foundation PAM Proclamation notes the number of Americans riddled with chronic pain, the cost the nation incurs as the result of chronic pain, and how increased awareness about the effects of chronic pain can result in better outcomes.

While delighted by the high turnout of proclamations already received from cities and states across the country, there is still time to request your community's support, recognizing the challenges of those with pain. To receive the proclamation template in order to submit to your town or city, please email:
