A Cup of Encouragement

Ok! Now What?
Have you ever found yourself saying those words or thinking them when you just don't know what to do?
We all have at one time or another, there is a solution!
Jesus is very aware of our daily, ongoing needs and the fact that life is full of distractions and challenges.
That is why He prescribed the antidote for confusion, worry and anxiety and how we should live in the Gospel of Matthew 6, in Verses 25 through 34.
Here, he sets the priorities of life for us all.
Each morning after I get up I am sure to take my daily vitamins, along with them I take a supplement known as "Focus Factor".
I would like to share the "Focus Factor" of Life found in Vs. 33-34, it is the prescription, which should set our priorities and organizes our daily living.
33 "But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His Kingdom and His Righteousness (His way of being right-The attitude and character of God, and all these
things will be given to you also".
Let me Encourage you to take a Daily "FOCUS FACTOR" quiet time with Jesus, take the first part of your day to Focus on and "Seek His Kingdom", in prayer and meditation with bible reading.

Conversion Symposium

September 24th the RCIA
Commission will hold a Symposium on Conversion at St. Mark Church in Huntersville.  Noted speakers will delve into the Theological, Biblical and Pastoral aspects of Conversion.  There will also be a number of short "conversion stories" from people who have gone through the RCIA process, including a former Buddhist priest, a Jewish man, an atheist and one woman who is now a cloistered Poor Clare nun.  Ryan Hennessee from Immaculate Conception will share his story as well.  Everybody is invited.  Registration is $25, which includes lunch.  The Symposium begins at 8:30 concluding at 3:00.  Contact Fr. Martin for more details.

Rite of Welcome/Acceptance

The first step in the RCIA process is the Inquiry stage.  Having completed that, Colton Allard, Richard Bainbridge and John Knight celebrated the Rite of Welcome (baptized) and Robert Soy-Sommeth celebrated the Rite of Acceptance (unbaptized).  Let us continue to pray for these gentlemen as they journey now through the Catechumenate process leading to their baptism and/or full communion into the Catholic Church.  New inquirers are always welcome with our year-round process.
We are still seeking men and women to be sponsors for those in the RCIA process.  If interested, please contact Bob and MaryAnn Dylewski at 828-891-2782.

My Faith Journey

I was asked to write about my faith journey.  I am a "cradle" Catholic, Mass every Sunday, family rosary at night, and Catholic schools.  However, during this time I hadn't really lived and appreciated my Catholic faith; just going through the motions doesn't always transfer to a living faith.
First I began to realize the true value of the Eucharist.  Jesus loves me so much HE wants to come into my body, mind and heart and make HIS home.  What a wonderful loving Savior we have!  When we receive Jesus, we are as close to heaven as we can be while on earth.
Then, instead of saying the Rosary, I began to pray the Rosary; taking more time to meditate on the mysteries and the words of the Our Father, and the Hail Mary and the Glory Be.  I had to make those works my words.  Mary became more real to me; she is a woman, as I am; she is a mother, and I am also.  She was chosen to be the Mother of Jesus.  I also have been chosen to be the best I can be, with Jesus's help.  Mary always points to her SON!!!
The Bible helps my knowledge and faith grow.  You don't have to spend hours reading.  Take just one Psalm, one chapter and meditate on what you are reading.  Put yourself into the story and see where it leads you.
True faith is a journey; an exciting and fulfilling journey.  Take time to enjoy your Catholic faith and keep smiling.  GOD LOVES YOU!!!!

"Love of God, Love of Child" Inspires Claudia Yepez
Faith Formation Director Claudia Yepez prepares the Baptismal corner for a session of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd with young children.

A deep love of God and children is what inspires Claudia Yepez, our parish Faith Formation Director. "I guess I try to be the matchmaker between them, " she says with a smile.
Claudia grew up in Mexico City, Mexico where she met and married her husband, Bernardo. Bernardo's job in the automotive industry brought them to Indiana with two young daughters, Lucia, who just graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, and Natalia, a sophomore at Notre Dame University.  Their son, Imanol was born after moving to the U.S. and is a senior at TC Roberson.
"I was a stay at home Mom for many years," Claudia explains, but that all changed when the family moved to Grandhaven, MI. "I attended an Advent program at our parish on the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and knew I'd found what God wanted me to do," she remembers. She began taking the training for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in Grand Rapids, MI.
"For nine consecutive summers Bernardo took a week's vacation to stay with the kids so I could attend further training in Columbus, OH," she continues. "The kids loved it because he made fancier meals than I did!"  Claudia is currently working on her Master's Degree in Pastoral Studies and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd from Aquinas Institute of Theology. "I graduate on May 13, 2017!" she says proudly!
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an age appropriate method of teaching children and youth about the history of our Faith, the beauty of the sacraments and liturgy, and the presence of God in our lives using a hands-on approach for the younger children and building upon that as they grow older.
Claudia graduated from college with a degree in education and a love of foreign languages. Over the years Claudia has taught English as a second language, Spanish and Latin, most recently at Veritas Academy. She loves "hanging out with people and drinking coffee," she admits. "I figure the paperwork will wait for you but people won't always be there," she says, "so I welcome those who stop by my office to share something or ask a question."
Claudia loves seeing the joy of the children as they encounter God through their Faith Formation classes, both English speaking and Hispanic. "The children look forward to their Faith Formation classes and I see so many adults becoming more interested in their Faith through their children. I just love seeing the seeds of Faith planted in families and then watching it grow and bloom!" she exclaims. Claudia is beginning her third year at Immaculate Conception and feels "blessed to be here."

The Cenacle Open House
The open house attracted many parishioners, donors and interested ministries.

MUSIC MINISTER, STEVE ALDRIDGE, RETIRES
After seven years of serving the parishioners of Immaculate Conception as Music Minister, Steve Aldridge has retired. "There are so many things that I want to do - like work on my house, have holidays to myself, and be able to take a vacation over a weekend!" Steve explains.  "Retirement will give me the time to do them."
Steve has always loved music, especially the piano and the organ. He graduated from James Madison University in Virginia with a degree in music and went on to get a Master's of Music at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. " I began teaching piano and loved it," Steve recalls, "In fact, I still hear from some of my former piano students." At the same time, Steve went to work part-time at St. Anne's Catholic Church in his hometown of Colonial Heights, Virginia.
"When I came to Immaculate Conception, I was looking for a full-time position," he explains. "That enabled me to finally buy my own house!" Steve was also delighted to come to Immaculate Conception as "I have never had so many good singers in one church," he exclaims.
Steve plans on staying in the area as he likes Hendersonville, and the people! The camaraderie with the people in the choir and parish is what he will miss most. Our parish congratulates Steve on his retirement and gives him our thanks and best wishes!

First Saturday Devotions
Next year, we will observe the 100 th anniversary of our Blessed Mother's appearances at Fatima, Portugal to Lucia dos Santos, and her two little cousins, Jacinta, and Francisco Marto.  The fulfillment, or not, of her requests will have great consequences for world peace; for the very survival of the world.  Her message is a spiritual one, a call for prayer and penance.  Moreover, it is a dire warning of what will happen if her requests are not fulfilled.  Much of what she predicted has come to pass over the years.
The apparitions of the Blessed Mother were preceded the year before by three apparitions of an angel who came to the little children as a messenger of the Mother of God.  In the Spring, Summer, and Autumn of 1916, the Angel of Peace appeared thus preparing the way for Our Lady's first apparition on 13 May, 1917.
In that year, the Mother of God appeared six times to the children, and in the third apparition she showed them a vision of hell.  That vision was not a warning to the children, but to us.  In total, Mary appeared to the children six times.  Additionally, on 10 December, 1925, she appeared to Lucia, then a religious, accompanied by the Child Jesus.  Our Blessed Mother said to Lucia, "See, my daughter, my heart surrounded by thorns which ungrateful men pierce at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude... Say to all those who:
  • for five months, on the first Saturday, confess,
  • receive Holy Communion,
  • recite the Rosary,
  • and keep me company for 15 minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, in a spirit of reparation,
I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls."  Let us, the parishioners of the Immaculate Conception Church, embrace this devotion.  Come join Mary's Mission at the 9:00 a.m. mass on First Saturdays, fulfill the requirements of the devotion, and join with us as we pray to Jesus through Mary.

Two books to assist you with the devotion, and meditations, are:

Immaculate Conception Church Kicks Off Fall Jackets Drive
One of Immaculate Conception Church's most significant community outreach programs is set to start the weekend of October 1 and 2.
The fall program is expected to result in the collection of some 300 warm jackets and blankets for those in need in time for coming colder weather.  It has been an annual event for almost 20 years.
"We are delighted that our parishioners so generously support this effort", Fr. Martin Schratz, OFM Cap., pastor, said. "More than three van loads of donated items are delivered to help fill a vital need at this time of year."
The van loads are delivered by parish member JoAnn Kelly, who coordinates the effort, to Interfaith Assistance Ministry.  That ministry then distributes the items to their clients.
A second community outreach program will take place over the December 3 and 4 weekend when the parish will hold its annual Christmas gift drive.  This effort historically has seen collected some 700 donated gifts, both for children and adults.  Local area non-profit groups then distribute the gifts to their clients in need.
For more information contact JoAnn Kelly at (828) 693-9364 or at1122Crab@bellsouth.net.

Mother Teresa
Affectionately known as the "saint of the gutter" for her love for the poor, Mother Teresa earned several international honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Throughout her life she prayed for three things: to share in His Passion, to be a saint (humble and meek), and not to refuse Him anything. God granted her all three. As a young woman she would fervently pray, "to drink ONLY from His chalice of pain."  Her confessors understood that through her dark nights she actually was sharing in the Passion of Christ and the sufferings of the poor.
As the postulator for her sainthood, Fr. Brian Kolodiejchuk, notes: "Instead of stifling her missionary impulse, the darkness seemed to invigorate it." Most of us, who experienced working with the Missionaries, even for short periods, know in our hearts that we could not have maintained it. Their love and stamina was born of surrender, loss and God's grace. Mother Teresa once said, "The less we have, the more we give. Seems absurd, but it's the logic of love."
There is only one test of true discipleship - did her life bring glory and honor to Jesus? Did her darkness produce light? Indeed, the presence of Christ in her was often tangible and on September 4th Mother Teresa will formally be declared a saint.

Una Taza de Aliento

¡Ok! ¿Y Ahora Que?

Jesús me ama tanto. ÉL quiere entrar a mi cuerpo, mente y corazón y albergarse allí.
