GIVE US YOUR FEEDBACK ON THE FUTURE OF THE UNDERGROUND PROGRAM

Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) wants to ensure that the goals of the Underground Program are in line with the community's interests, and is seeking feedback to determine the future of the program.  As a result of the 2015 embezzlement, an external review recommended that oversight of the program be consolidated under a single department to improve financial management and program implementation. The external review further recommended that the City evaluate whether the goal of underground program has been met and determine whether or not the program should continue. The assessment will also help determine if the City should stop collecting the monthly surtax that funds the underground program.

PWP now has overall responsibility for the Underground Program and plans to host citywide meetings beginning in October to provide the community with an overview of program benefits/challenges and timeline for future activity. To learn more, click here.  Your feedback will be used to develop the agenda for the community meetings.

PWP ADDS ANOTHER LARGE SCALE SOLAR PROJECT TO POWER PORTFOLIO

Earlier this year, PWP announced the addition of a 20 megawatt (MW) solar project to its energy portfolio. PWP is excited to share that two new large-scale commercial solar projects, the Antelope Big Sky Ranch and Summer Solar Projects (SPower Projects) will provide PWP with an additional 13 MW of solar power - equivalent to powering 5,600 Pasadena homes annually. As part of a joint power purchase agreement, the SPower Project is managed by the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA). PWP contracted with SCPPA to receive a portion of the total 40 MW output of the SPower Project, located in Lancaster, CA.

The addition of the new solar project brings PWP closer to achieving its Renewable Portfolio Standard goals, which aim to supply 40% of PWP's retail energy sales with renewable resources by 2020, and 50% by 2030. For more information, click here.

DOUBLE THE REBATE - RESIDENTIAL POOL PUMPS!

PWP is offering a $900 to $950 rebate to all PWP residential electric customers who replace their old pool pump with a new energy efficient variable speed or variable flow pool pump and motor. Replacing older inefficient pool pumps with new efficient models will not only help you reduce energy use but save you money.  With the summer heat and the possibility of rolling blackouts, PWP wants to make sure you do your part to conserve energy. To reduce energy during the peak periods when PWP needs it most, remember to operate your pump before noon and after 8 pm on summer weekdays, and reduce run-time to four or less hours per day. To learn more about other residential electric rebates that PWP is doubling, click here.

PUSD 2ND GRADERS GET LESSONS ON GOING GREEN

For the past five years, PWP has partnered with the Pasadena Department of Public Works to manage and fund the Green Living Curriculum. Offered to all second grade students in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), the six-week course is led by a Green Living Curriculum teacher who uses technology to create problem solving lessons that focus on sustainability, conservation and renewable energy resources such as solar, wind and geothermal. New to the curriculum this year, students will learn how natural gas is used to power Pasadena's Glenarm Power Plant. Over 1,500 PUSD students have participated in the program to date.
