CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Maple Grove's Capital Campaign--Generations of Generosity--will take place this October and November.

* The Board of Trustees has prioritized projects that need significant investment to improve safety, update infrastructure, and meet current expectations. Projects include electrical upgrades, sidewalks, carpeting, roof work, education wing HVAC, masonry restoration, lighting, elevator, parlor & main kitchens and technology.
* Capital Campaign leadership includes a broad array of more than 35 members who have agreed to serve in various capacities, led by campaign chairs Brian & Sandy Freer and Jon & Marialice Bennett and campaign coordinators Patti Rottenbiller and Monica Tenney. The Trustees have engaged the services of campaign advisor, Zip Long, of Horizons Stewardship.
* Maple Grove members and friends will be asked to make three-year capital pledges above and beyond our regular offerings. We understand if people cannot do so, and appreciate all who can.
* The heart of the campaign will be this prayer: Lord, what do you want to do through me? Amen.

JDRF VIRTUAL Walk
September 25, During Sunday School

During Vacation Bible School, Maple Grove kids raised nearly $600 for JDRF! We are going to add to that amount by walking A VIRTUAL walk to recognize the JDRF One Walk which will be held at Ohio Stadium on September 25, 2016. Our 2-MILE walk will BEGIN AT CHURCH during the Sunday School hour on the same day. TMI Leaders will lead kids on a 2-mile walk through the neighborhood (or through church if it rains). Donations will be accepted on that day to add to our total! Sign up for this great opportunity on our Facebook event page.

SUNDAY SCHOOL meets from 9:45 - 10:45 Sunday mornings September - May Kids ages 4 - 6th grade are welcome to join us in the upper education wing!

Project Sunday School meets from 9:45 - 10:45 Sunday mornings beginning September 11 ! Kids ages 4 - 6th grade are welcome to join us in the upper education wing. Sunday school at Maple Grove is unlike Sunday school anywhere else. We will have periods of traditional curriculum with a craft or activity related to a bible story.  And then we will switch to a Project-based period where kids will read a bible story or a scripture and then put together a performance for the congregation. These performances are like mini-musicals with a live band, kids singing songs they've heard on the radio among props they've created and a feeling that kids can tell us best what we need to know about God. They are really special. Sunday School starts on the 11th. This year's Project Sunday School period will begin on September 25.  The performance will be in worship on November 13.

T.M.I. (Tween Ministry Incorporated)
T.M.I. is a ministry for kids in grades 4-6.  Together we share God's word,  complete mission activities and have fellowship together.

Sunday School classes resume on Sunday, September 11 meeting from 9:45 to 10:45.

* A NEW 6-WEEK CLASS - For the Love of God: A Conversation about God and Homosexuality led by Eric Smoot. What does the Bible say about God's love? Who does God love? What is God's love? How can we love each other because "God first loved us?" This series explores the story of God's love in the Bible, how it relates to how we love each other, especially talking about homosexuality. Darkwood Brew probes this important topic, and this provocative six-session series focuses on God's love, the Bible, and homosexuality. Meeting in room 6.
* A NEW 6-WEEK CLASS - Open the Door: A Journey to the True Self by Joyce Rupp, led by Sue Fletcher. This book is structured as a daily prayer guide for everyday use over six weeks, each day offers a reflection, a guided meditation, an original prayer, a thoughtful question, and a related scripture quote. This class will offer time to share about your prayer life and will meet in room 3.
* The Adult Bible Study - Using the International Bible Lessons curriculum this class engages in stimulating discussion that explores the biblical message and how to apply it to daily life. Meets in the Parlor.
* The Kitchen Class This class engages in topical Christian conversation and book studies. Class time always includes time to share individual cares and concerns. Meets in the Kitchen.
* Word Among Us - This class reads together one or more of the lectionary texts for the week, looks at the historical context and the life applications for the scriptures. Meets in the Chapel.
* Project Sunday School - Is for children age 4 through grade 6. All the children gather together each week where they are introduced to Jesus and God's Word through Bible stories. Several times through the year, children learn and retell a bible story through drama presentations.

"I made my Emmaus Walk many years ago and it was life-changing for me. I encourage you to prayerfully consider a Walk too." Bill Tenney

Cum Christo is a Lay Renewal Movement which brings Christians together in an ecumenical three-day Spiritual Renewal Weekend to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and to motivate them to persevere, to live authentic Christian lives, and to grow as servant-leaders of Jesus in their churches and many environments.
Men's weekend: September 15-18
Women's weekend: October 13-16

The Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God's grace and love is revealed to you through other believers. In the Emmaus community, each participant's individual gifts and servant-leadership skills are developed for use in the local church and its mission and participants are encouraged to find ways to live out their individual call to discipleship in their home, church, and community.

Maple Grove's Welcoming Statement as approved by Administrative Council:

Maple Grove United Methodist Church is called to the ministry of reconciliation. We embrace as a gift the diversity of the world. We celebrate and affirm our human family's diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, faith history, economic status, marital status, physical and mental ability, and education.  We believe discrimination is incompatible with Christ's Gospel. We believe all people are worthy of God's love and grace. We welcome the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of Maple Grove United Methodist Church. We recognize that there are differences among us but believe that we can love alike, even though we may not think alike. We know that the way we act toward others is the fullest expression of what we believe. We invite all people-from traditional Christians to questioning skeptics-to join us on a journey toward greater love, understanding, and mutual respect.
Come and see.
