Next meeting September 12
Seven of us had a very good discussion Monday night, and a few others plan to join us for our next meeting on
Sept. 12, at which time we will discuss Jonathan Haidt,
The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion, pages 61-130 (chapters 3-5). There seems to be a lot of interest in this book, the study of which will take us within a couple of weeks of the presidential election. I've read far enough ahead to tell you that the book gets better chapter by chapter.

Legos Needed!
|
|
Do you have Legos tucked away in your closets, under your beds, or in your attic that your children or grandchildren are no longer playing with? If so and you want to do some clearing out, please consider donating them to All Saints'
Sunday
School program. An important part of Godly Play (the
Sunday
School curriculum used for children ages 4-6th grade) is the work time. During this time children get to further explore Bible stories and Episcopal tradition with various play-oriented materials. For the new program year we will be adding Legos to one of the classrooms. We will need a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and minifigures. If you would like to donate, please contact Meredith Schraeder,
[email protected]

Program Year Kickoff
|
|
September 18
On
Sunday, September 18 new program year begins! This joyous day will include a fresh start for several returning programs and will also mark the first day of an exciting new ministry!
Acolyte Installment and Recognition
New and returning acolytes will be invited to go forward during the announcements for a blessing. This will be a wonderful opportunity to spotlight the youth that serve and show them that their work is appreciated.
Each
Sunday children, usually in 2nd grade and above, help guide the worship service as acolytes. Our usual needs are for four acolytes. A crucifer to open the service by carrying the cross and leading two torch-bearers and one gospeler or book bearer in the procession along with our clergy and choir. Acolytes also assist the clergy at the reading of the gospel, during communion, during the offering and at the recessional at the end of the service.
Sign-up and training, for new and returning acolytes, will be after the
11 o'clock worship service on Sunday, September 11. This is a wonderful way to serve our congregation and to learn more about our beautiful Episcopal worship and traditions. Please contact Sarah Chapman for questions or more information,
[email protected]
New this Year - Junior Choir!
The Junior Choir will meet in the Godly Play room approximately ten minutes
after worship (gotta leave time to grab a cookie!) and rehearses for 30 minutes. The choir is open to kids in grades K through 6. Younger children may participate on a case-by-case basis. Building on the Montessori approach, children in the Junior Choir explore through music and movement both our Anglican musical and liturgical tradition and contemporary camp and worship songs as we prepare music for First Sundays and special programs like the Christmas Pageant. Contact Krista Mays,
[email protected], for more information.
Senior Choir
The Senior Choir is open to adults and students in junior high or high school. The Senior Choir leads our worship music
on Sunday
mornings and prepares music for special services like Evensong, Christmas Eve, Easter Vigil, etc. Music spans a variety of genres, from traditional Anglican chant and hymnody to contemporary songs. If you love a variety of music and are able to match pitch (i.e., carry a tune in a basket!), please consider giving the choir a try. Although the ability to read music is helpful, it is not required; we have choir members in each section who hold the fort in that regard and strengthen the singing of all. The Senior Choir rehearses in the Godly Play room Wednesdays at
6:45
and
Sunday
mornings prior to worship at
10:15
. If you are wondering whether the choir is the place for you to share your gifts, give it a try... Join us! For more information contact Krista Mays, [email protected]
First Day of Sunday School
Sunday School for children and adults is
on Sunday mornings from
10:00-10:50 am. Nursery care for children under 4 can be made available. If needed, contact Meredith Schraeder,
[email protected].
The adult class, "Live Your Faith", will again have various leaders from the local community and the All Saints' congregation leading sessions on various topics such as
ethics, Episcopal Tradition, social justice, prayer, other religions, Bible Study and more. Stay tuned for announcements regarding class descriptions and leaders.
Children 4 yrs old - 6th grade grade will experience the Godly Play curriculum. Godly Play is a hands-on, Montessori approach curricula that allows participants to hear and see Bible stories, wonder about how the stories are a part of their lives, and work with various materials to explore the stories further. Different this year, all will meet together in the Godly Play room to hear the story. After wondering and discussion, older kids will go to the Weaving God's Promises classroom for exploration and work activities.
If your family is new to All Saints' or to the
Sunday School program, registration will be available on Sunday, September 11 after worship.
If you have any questions, need more information, or would like to volunteer to help on a rotating basis, please contact Meredith Schraeder,
[email protected]
