If you have a project that will create or retain jobs in Southeast Alaska, Juneau Economic Development Council could be the lender you've been looking for.  We are a non-profit financial institution created to fund development in Southeast Alaska.  It is often very difficult for new businesses and businesses in depressed industries to get the financing they need to get started and so Juneau Economic Development Council launched the Southeast Alaska Revolving Loan Fund in 1997 to bridge the gap between what banks will finance and what the business community needs.  Our goal is to provide financing for viable projects that will create and retain quality jobs and help to diversify local economies in Southeast Alaska.  JEDC operates a community-based loan fund and one region wide loan program that serves smaller communities throughout Southeast Alaska. Willoughby District Stakeholder Meeting  

The Willougby District is buzzing with projects and activity! JEDC invites you to attend the Willoughby District Stakeholder meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 4:30PM at the JACC.  This meeting will bring together various downtown stakeholders to discuss current projects and plans and general comments concerning the Willoughby District so that the downtown community can move forward together.  Immediately following the Willoughby District Stakeholder Meeting will be the Willoughby District Arts Complex meeting with the JAHC and Northwind Architects.  This session will report on significant progress on the conceptual design made following community feedback at the July meetings. 

Since 2010, JEDC has made a steady and concerted effort to work with diverse stakeholders to address concerns about the health and vitality of downtown Juneau to ensure that Juneau is a Great (Capital) City! 

2016 FIRST LEGO League Animal Allies Season Kicks Off!

FIRST is about so much more than LEGOs and robots! This year, our teams will explore the interactions between humans and other animals in the "Animal Allies" Challenge. During the "Animal Allies" season, teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the project.  They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game.  Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the FIRST LEGO League signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.

Cluster Working Group Meetings

JEDC continues to facilitate cluster working group meetings as part of its Southeast Cluster Initiative. 

The September R&D Cluster Working Group meets on Thursday, September 8 at 9AM at JEDC.

The September Renewable Energy Cluster Working Group meets on Thursday, September 8 at 3PM at JEDC. 

Visitor Products Cluster Working Group will start meetings again in October.    

JEDC has been a member of the ACEP Advisory Committee for several years.  The Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) based at the University of Alaska is dedicated to applied energy research and testing focused on lowering the cost of energy throughout Alaska and developing economic opportunities for the State, its residents, and its industries. The Juneau Economic Development Council annually has openings on its Board of Directors. JEDC Board members are recommended to the CBJ Assembly by the current JEDC Board and then appointed by the CBJ Assembly based upon their experience and expertise in areas relating to economic development and our local economy.

For an appointment of three years starting on/about December 2015, there are three seats available. In this cycle, one of these three open seats will be filled by a representative of organized labor.  Interested parties should send of letter of interest to JEDC Executive Director, Brian Holst, [email protected] , or call 523-2333  for more information. 

Applicants will also need to complete an application form with a brief letter of qualifications. Applications can be sent to the City Clerk or to JEDC.

Deadline for applying is Friday, October 21 .  Interested Candidates should plan on participating in interviews with current members of the JEDC Board on Wednesday, November 2, at Noon.
