Jewish Family Services Thanks You for Your Support
  August 2016

Dear Friends,

Late August in California means Back to School!
Thank you to everyone who helped make our second Equipped to Learn Backpack Drive a great success. You contributed over 150 backpacks and all the supplies needed to give our preschool through adult learners a great start to the school year. Kids of all ages - along with many adults - volunteered to count, sort and pack.
What a great team we make!
Wishing you a happy end of summer.

Since Knitzvah began in 2006, the "fabulous and amazing" Knitzvah members have created over 22,000 cuddly creations for 22 agencies.

If you love to knit, crochet or sew; or really want to learn how, this is the group to join!  Knitzvah meets monthly and creates beautiful handmade items for preemie babies in the NICU, seniors who appreciate lap blankets to keep warm, cancer patients in need of colorful caps, and so much more.

The  Knitzvah Artist exhibit is being held on the 2nd floor gallery hall of the Levy Family Campus from September 14th through October 28th.  The exhibit showcases exquisite and artistic handcrafted items from Knitzvah members.  Each of these beautiful items has a story of giving from the heart which gives recipients hope for a better future.

Emergency Fund for Refugee Services

JFS SV urgently needs your help!  Each year, we welcome refugees who have experienced persecution due to their religion, ethnicity, political expression or sexual orientation. The people we help are fleeing dire and often violent circumstances.

This year JFS SV will serve 200+ vulnerable refugees with resettlement support, vocational English language training, job search assistance, case management, and emergency food assistance.

Emergency Need for Kosher Food

This year the FEMA National Emergency Food and Shelter Board (EFSP) withheld its annual allocation to Santa Clara County, as it did not meet their criteria.
As a result, Jewish Family Services doesn't have the funds ($48,000 in 2015) for our food package program this year.
We need to collect over 12,000 pounds of kosher food and we need your help to make this happen.
