AUGUST 2016:  Park Notes   -   Unfurling a  New Brand Identity

Did you spot something different? We thought you might have.

As Evelyn's Park prepares  for our opening in early 2017, we continue to collaborate closely with the many architects,  agencies, local leaders and businesses involved in bringing our wonderful park to fruition.  To advance our efforts in creating a unified and inspiring space for the community, we have also recently  revisited one of the most visible aspects of our park: our graphic identity.

Above: Our new identity is simple enough to reproduce in one color and yields a custom "arrow" shape which will be used throughout the brand system. Additionally, we now have a vibrant  color palette to use across all of our materials - which works to reflect hues selected by our landscape architects at SWA.
THE LOOK

Designed by Principle, the new mark (a visual double entendre that merges an E and a butterfly) reinforces the joyful, transformative nature of our park as we work to enhance and engage the community around us. Principle's, creative director Allyson Lack, a Bellaire resident, points out that the refreshed identity allows nature to shine through.

THE LANGUAGE

Furthering this notion is our tagline,  Enrich  your every day, which serves as both an  invitation to engage and a reminder that  every moment matters. We strive to be a  destination that connects people to our  city, to our surroundings, and to each other,  however simple or celebratory your reason.

THE RESULT

We are excited about this mark, as it symbolizes Evelyn's Park's transition from a historic site to a public green space, as well as our ongoing efforts to be a source of beauty, joy and tranquility. The new identity will be displayed on signage, merchandise, a refreshed website and more in the coming months.

HEAT! RAINS! GREAT PROGRESS!

That is the story for this month. Most of the visible progress has been with the event space and café buildings. Not quite as visible to passersby has been constant progress to park pathways, landscape areas, and the Great Lawn. Offsite, at a foundry in Santa Fe, NM progress on the Wonderland Sculpture and Move One Place On continues. Meanwhile, café operators Jamie and Dalia Zelko are making plans and working hard on the equipment phase of the café kitchen.
One of the exciting Evelyn's Park design features is the park lighting. The pedestrian light fixtures, parking lot lights, and Sculpture Garden lighting systems are all Dark Skies Compliant. Click on the link to learn more.

Evelyn's Park Conservancy received a generous challenge match grant from an anonymous donor. For a limited time the donor will match community contributions at a $1 to $2 ratio. If we raise $200,000 the anonymous donation will be $100,000. Gifts made now have an even greater impact because of this match. We are about 60% of the way toward the goal of raising $200,000. The challenge match runs through October 11, 2016.

This match comes at an ideal time because of donor opportunities including The Butterfly Wall, an innovative philanthropic art project created to further the park's commitment of incorporating the community into the heart and development of the forthcoming park. "The match is an example of the excitement, commitment and generosity of the Evelyn's Park supporters to see Evelyn's Park to completion. With the match in place, it is a great time to make your donation to the park, knowing your dollars will have an even more significant impact on the green space and making the park operational for its first year," explains says Evelyn's Park Conservancy President Patricia King-Ritter.
