Dear Shortridge High School Alumni:

It was a pleasure welcoming back the class of 1966 for their 50-year reunion. It was an enjoyable afternoon where stories were shared. At the same time, nearly 100 Butler University students were on campus completing service projects; Butler U President Danko dropped in to say hello and to provide some assistance as well.
As you may be well aware, I am excited to continue to recognize and celebrate the past accomplishments of Shortridge alumni. I am hoping to build a collection of artifacts and memorabilia that can be showcased on campus. The history of Shortridge is your story to share with the current and future student population. If you are interested in supporting this initiative, please feel free to contact the school at 317.226.2810 or our parent liaison Lori Armstrong via email at [email protected]. (See article below--Archive & Museum)

ATHLETICS PROGRAMS:
On the athletic front, our football team is UNDEFEATED (currently)! Please mark your calendars to join us for our homecoming football game on Friday, September 16th at 7:00p.m.;  our homecoming dance will follow. During the half-time, we will recognize all of our senior athletes for their participation in our fall sports. Our soccer, volleyball, boys tennis, cross country and golf teams continue to be competitive. All athletic competitions are on our website. Drop by and support our Blue Devils.

ON-/ OFF-CAMPUS EVENTS:
While there are a number of events happening on campus (robotics club, college visits, Certified Pubic Accounts (CPA) luncheon for students, hiking club), but we are very excited to participate in Indy DO Day (September 29th) when our whole school will be out in the community with Eli Lilly and Company employees working on a number of service projects for our city.

Regards,

Shane O'Day

New Activities & Partnerships Updates...

Shortridge and Joseph Maley Foundation Forge Partnership -
JMF Fall Celebration, Friday, October 21, 2016, Caleb Mills

During the 2015-16 school year, Shortridge introduced a new partnership with the Joseph Maley Foundation (JMF). JMF is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit, established in 2008 with the mission, "serving children of all abilities." They work to build acceptance of individuals through seven programs that engender compassion and respect for the diversity of life.
As Shortridge continues its partnership with the Joseph Maley Foundation in the current school year, we are pleased to share that JMF will host their Fall Celebration on Friday, October 21, in Caleb Mills auditorium. This fundraiser provides a wonderful opportunity for SHS alumni to learn more about the Joseph Maley Foundation, the scope of their programs, and the collaboration with Shortridge while raising critical funds for JMF. Discounted tickets are available for Shortridge alumni--simply enter promo code SHS Alum when registering to attend at www.josephmaley.org.
This event celebrates the programs, partners, and volunteers of JMF.
**The presentation begins in the auditorium at 12 noon, and afterwards Foundation programs will be showcased in classrooms.
**You will have the opportunity to learn how you can get involved with JMF and ask questions about the impact of programming on central Indiana youth.
**Tours also will be offered to explore Shortridge with current students serving as ambassadors.
To learn more about JMF and its programs, and to register for the Fall Celebration, please visit: www.josephmaley.org.
We look forward to seeing you!

For more information regarding JMF, contact Sue Peoni, 317.501.3897.

SHORTRIDGE ARCHIVE & MUSEUM...
LOOKING FOR SHORTRIDGE ARTIFACTS & TREASURES

WHAT? -- ESTABLISHING THE SHORTRIDGE MUSEUM
of artifacts and memorabilia.

WHO: Volunteers  are beginning to sort through and evaluate items in the collections of books, yearbooks, trophies and other Shortridge-related antiques currently

WHAT WE NEED/HOPE TO OBTAIN:
* Vintage SHS jewelry and accessories; e.g. class rings, vintage pin, class keys, brooches, etc.
* Vintage SHS clothing items: Letter sweaters/jackets, sports uniforms, ROTC uniform, senior cords, cheerleader outfits, etc.
* Original photographs of teams, events, dances, special visitors, etc.
* School trophies (not individual unless pre-1930)
* Vintage SHS artifacts; e.g. dance programs, correspondence of an historic nature, pennants, banners, signs
* Vintage scrapbooks and SHS-related videos
* Rare, unique, quirky, one-of-a-kind items.

WHAT WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING:
Due to limited space and the availability of digitized copies, we don't need:
* Yearbooks: we have duplicate copies for many years; the older yearbooks are in very fragile condition that should be separated and stored in special archival-quality cabinets where they would be better protected.
* The Shortridge Echo
* Newspaper clippings

We're almost certain there may be alumni and/or family of alumni who may still have items stored in an attic, basement, estate sales that could be added to this historical collection. If you have NON-PAPER items that might be included, send those items to: Shortridge High School, ATTN: Lori Armstrong, Partnership Coordinator, 3401 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208.

OR Contact Charlotte Ottinger directly with questions regarding this project: 317-509-8577 or by email: [email protected]  Continue to check back for updates regarding our progress.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Or if you don't have any of these items, kindly consider a financial donation for our committee to purchase archival quality storage supplies and vintage display cabinets. These display cabinets can range upwards of several hundred dollars each. OUR FINANCIAL GOAL: $5,000 OR MORE! We need to obtain several display cabinets and/or archival storage supplies to properly catalog years of Shortridge artifacts. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

LOG ONTO OUR WEBSITE WITH YOUR DONATION:
www.shortridgealumni.com. Click on the Dues/Donation tab and select the appropriate Archive/Museum category to make your donation via PayPal or send your check. The Shortridge Alumni Association is a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization. Donations may be eligible for tax purposes. Consult with your financial adviser.
