Letter from Our Administrator
September 2016
September is an exciting month on the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon campus.
Classes just began at Valley Catholic School and eighth grade students will soon be partnering with our residents, who will share their life experiences and adventures. It's a year-long relationship that emphasizes connection, respect and empathy.
The temperatures have gotten warmer after a brief cool spell. Soon, we'll be enjoying crisp air and more fall colors on our trees and shrubs.
The weather was perfect on Sept. 10 as our residents and staff rode on our parade float, smiling and waving to paradegoers during the annual Beaverton Celebration Parade.
I have exciting news to share.  Maryville Memory Care (MMC), which is licensed as a residential care facility, is reviewed by the State of Oregon every two years to ensure that we are in compliance with the rules and regulations under which we operate. Our latest state survey report arrived on August 30 . We passed with flying colors.
At MMC, our goal is to provide the best quality of life for our residents from a physical, emotional and spiritual perspective. We believe that our excellent survey results reflect our philosophy of care: our residents and caregivers are at the heart of everything we do. Assistant Administrator Michael Kilbury and I could not be more proud of the MMC team for their hard work and superb care each and every day.
And it's not just Maryville Memory Care that shines. Maryville - our entire care system - remains a five-star facility through the efforts of our dedicated and compassionate team of professionals.
Their "service with love" shines in every season.

Meet Priscilla Bodily: September 2016 Employee of the Month
Described as a valuable employee not only to the activity department but to all of Maryville, Priscilla Bodily is the September 2016 Employee of the Month.
Priscilla joined Maryville's Activity Department on June 16, 2014. Activities Director Hilee Jackson said, "She is always upbeat, laughing, smiling and so joyful. When new residents arrive, she introduces herself and assists them when they take part in our programs. When the weather is nice, she takes our residents outside and around our campus to enjoy the fresh air and, literally, smell the roses."
Hilee Jackson added, "Priscilla sees things that may need to be addressed and brings these things and ideas to our attention. She is a blessing to Maryville and our residents - especially to the Activity Department."
Priscilla and her husband, Dennis, have two children. Priscilla enjoys visiting with friends, bingo and traveling. She recently went to Japan to visit her daughter, who lives there with her husband. She is also proud of her son, who recently bought a home in Colorado.
Congratulations to Priscilla Bodily: Maryville's September 2016 Employee of the Month.
Resident of the Month: 2016 Rose Princess Dorothy White Johnson
Maryville resident Dorothy White Johnson is a two-time Rose Princess. Her first regal role came as a princess in a Portland Winter Rose Festival. This year, she was honored as a Maryville Rose Princess. Her regal journey began years earlier.
On May 15, 1922, Dave and Daisie White were blessed with a daughter, Dorothy, who arrived a year after the birth of their son, Pat. Dorothy says she had a marvelous childhood with many aunts, uncles and cousins nearby.
When Dorothy was 18, she was selected as a princess for the Rose Festival Winter Court of 1940. (Portland used to have two Rose Festivals - one in June and one in winter.)
As ambassadors for the City of Portland, the Winter Court traveled to Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., Miami and even Havana, Cuba. They took part in social activities and special tours, meeting politicians, mayors, singers and movie stars including Sophie Tucker, Tony Martin and New York Mayor Fiorello La Guardia.

Soup's On 2016: because no child should go to bed hungry
On Saturday, Oct. 1, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon and the City of Beaverton will present Soup's On 2016: the popular fundraiser to fight hunger in northwest Oregon. Soup's On 2016 will benefit the Sunshine Pantry.

Guests will enjoy soups, bread, desserts and beverages. In the above photo from Soup's On 2015, Sr. Delores Adelman presents the Silver Ladle Award to Maryville's Liz Fochtman and Jessica Trapp for their delicious chicken gnocchi soup. Our team is excited about returning this year to once again delight the crowd.

Maryville is a Catholic health and wellness facility dedicated to providing long-term skilled nursing care, short-term physical rehabilitation and memory care.
