One of the most thrilling activities for children of all ages is finding the perfect pumpkin! Local pumpkin patches like Knox, Pingle's, Brooks, Watson and Coopers (to name a few!), provide endless fun, and acres of perfectly orange pumpkins ready to bring home and carve into front porch masterpieces. Plan your fun family fall activities by visiting the Fall for Durham website_ Durham Tourism is excited to announce the launch of the new Fall for Durham website, in partnership with York Durham Headwaters

Designed with family and adventure in mind, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to choose from a menu of fun, family friendly, fall weekend escapes, depending on their interests. Whether it is an outdoor adventure you seek, to entice your palates with a weekend of culinary wonder, or to simply enjoy the arts and cultural charms of a small town -- there is something for everyone to enjoy in Durham this fall! 
 
The site will also feature a menu of fall-themed family day trips, making it easy to curate the perfect experience at the click of a button.

History fans will love exploring historic sites in Ajax and Oshawa during Doors Open_ History buffs will love participating in Doors Open! For the 13th year running, fascinating historic buildings and heritage sites in Ajax and Oshawa will open their doors to the public.

On Oct. 1, get a rare glimpse into Durham Region's past and enjoy spending the day as a tourist in your own community.

FALL COLOURS AND HALLOWEEN TRAINS
Relax and enjoy Durham Region_s stunning fall colours from your seat on the York-Durham Heritage Railway_ Enjoy the breathtaking colours of autumn from the comforts of your seat on the York-Durham Heritage Railway! 

The Oak Ridges Moraine is stunning this time of year, and what better way to experience it and take it all in than a relaxing fall colours train rideSit back and enjoy 90-minutes of beauty with your friends and family. 

These trips take place throughout the first three weekends in October. During the Oct. 16 trip, passengers can enjoy a hot catered lunch in the dining car! 

As the month goes on, this train turns into a Halloween delight, with Halloween trains departing the last two weekends. On board, children young and old will enjoy the festive décor and Halloween activities to get you in the spirit! Children 12 and under who come dressed in their best Halloween costume will travel for only $1! (Maximum two children per adult.)

IL DIVO LIVE! 
Enjoy the music of popular group Il Divo_ Performing Oct. 12. Il Divo is coming to Durham Region! Touring to promote their seventh studio album Amor & Pasion, the talented group will be sharing their music with fans for one night only on Oct. 12, at the General Motors Centre. 

With 12 new songs spanning a century of traditional tangos, smoldering boleros and classic mambas, audiences can look forward to an evening filled with flavour and sultry rhythms.

Historic downtown Bowmanville will be bustling for the annual Applefest on Oct. 15_ Historic Downtown Bowmanville will be the place to be on Oct. 15 for the annual AppleFest

This tremendously popular street festival is the ultimate celebration of all things apple -- our specialty here in Durham Region! 

This free event is a showcase for our many local apple growers. In addition to freshly picked apples, you and the whole family will get to enjoy fresh-pressed apple cider, homemade pies and crisps, candy and caramel apples, cider doughnuts, famous hot apple fritters, and so much more! 

Plus, live entertainment and plenty of children's activities such as carnival rides, jumping castles, pony rides and more. AppleFest is a favourite family tradition you won't want to miss!

CANNINGTON HAUNTED TRAIL AND MAZE 
Enjoy thrills and chills during the Cannington Haunted Trail and Maze_ If you're looking for a frightfully fun haunt this Halloween season, head to the Cannington Haunted Trail and Maze in MacLeod Park -- if you dare! 

On Oct. 28 and 29, your spine will tingle as you wander along the popular Haunted Trail.  Be prepared to scream your way through the darkness in the intense Manic Maze, and bring your courage because there will be new scenes and scares around every corner! 

Note: this event is not recommended for children under eight years old.

CLARINGTON 
OVERDRIVE RACE AND RELAY SERIES   
Bike the track and run the trails at the famous Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Have you ever wondered what it might be like to race a bicycle around the track and trails at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park? Now is your chance! 

This year marks the second year of the Overdrive Race and Relay Series taking place Oct. 30.  Participants will have the opportunity to mountain bike, trail run, road cycle, road run, recumbent bike and even duathlon! 

A vendor expo will also be held in the event centre on Oct. 29 from noon to 4 p.m., and will include race registration, volunteer orientation, training and food!
