As I mentioned last week, September or
#ZESTEMBER, is a time for taking stock, refreshing your body and mind in preparation for the wintry months ahead.
Interior design is the perfect antidote to help you unwind and relax. Our homes support and nurture us every day, helping us to feel safe, secure, refreshed and revitalised.
Apart from our bedroom, we love to relax in the bathroom... taking our time to unwind after a long and stressful day. I love this bath tub that I spotted on a tranquil beach in New Zealand...
The bath water is heated from a fire beneath and this is the view that you're greeted with as you sit back and soak:
Whether you're creating a beach haven or a bathroom beauty in a town apartment, here are my top tips that will help you design your dream bathroom:
1) CONSIDER THE VIEW
Consider the view that you'll see as you're sitting on the toilet or soaking in the bath, Do you want it to be a private or a public space? Do you want to be cocooned from the world or at one with nature?
What items do you want to be on show and what items do you want to be hidden? In this bathroom, that I designed for a Kensington apartment, there is no window and therefore no view, so I incorporated feature shelves for interest and appeal.
The shelves in the shower area are ideal for all of the shower products and the shelves above the toilet are for display items and accessories, taking the bathroom from a functional room to a home with personality.
2) SELECT YOUR STYLE
To create a strong design you need to consider a consistent style in the bathroom. You might choose a traditional style with period details or a modern style with clean lines.
'Blue' the cat loves the contemporary bathroom that I designed for his London apartment.
3) ADD A PIECE OF PERSONALITY
Even the smallest of rooms can reflect your personality. You could add your personality through the wall tiles, the style of taps, wallpaper or a piece of art.
This is an old map of London (dated 1874) that I sourced for my downstairs cloakroom. It was originally in a tatty frame and looked quite bedraggled. Now, it looks amazing, adds a touch of history and is an interesting conversation piece for my visitors.
I hope this helps you create your dream bathroom where you can shower and refresh or bathe and relax. Here are some more ideas to inspire and excite you.
