Greetings!
The Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship has hit the ground running with great success this semester! From stories of students learning by doing this past summer to announcements of new grants and competitions, we have quite a bit to share with you.
On August 29th, new and returning students mingled with faculty and staff at the ICE Open House while the
Entrepreneurial Summer Fellows shared their experiences working in entrepreneurial internships or their own ventures. We are very excited to announce our Fellows who will also
present at the upcoming
Undergraduate Research Day!
We anxiously await the ideas students will develop this year through the many competition opportunities we are offering!
The most notable competition addition is that of the
Deacon Springboard.
Replacing the Venture Seed Grant process, the Deacon Springboard is the new way for students to apply for venture funding and advising!
In addition to highlighting summer student experiences and upcoming competitions, we also shed light on what
recent graduates are accomplishing!
This semester is off to a strong start and we can't wait to see what our entrepreneurs will achieve these next couple of months!

NEW This Fall: The Deacon Springboard
The Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship is launching a new program aimed at supporting students who have innovative ideas and wish to gain hands-on experience starting a new venture. This new process replaces the former New Venture Seed Grant process.
Deacon Springboard is a non-academic, six-month program that provides accepted students with coaching and guidance to help move their venture ideas forward. Students who are accepted will automatically receive $200 in seed funds, be matched with a dynamic venture adviser, have access to additional venture assistance funds, gain free entry to the Flywheel Start-up Factory and be awarded automatic entry to a new competition to be held at WFU in February.

Entrepreneurial Summer Fellows Bring Their Experiences Back to Campus
The Entrepreneurial Summer Fellows program, sponsored by the Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship, offers students the opportunity to spend their summer developing their own entrepreneurial venture or gaining first hand experience with a startup organization. The sixteen students selected this year each had unique summer experiences, but across the board, they all agree--they had the summer of a lifetime and were able to exercise what they've been learning in the classroom, as evidenced by their final presentations given at Wake Forest on August 29th. What did they do this summer? Find out
here.

Student Successes
In the spring of 2013, three Wake Forest juniors were presented with an in-class challenge: launch a venture on campus over a three-day period and present the results. Ben Johnson, Jack Zimmermann and Jesse Konig ('14) took that project and turned it into successful DC based food truck,
Swizzler.
The Swizzler boys have been selling gourmet hot dogs out of their food truck since their graduation and are now growing and taking the next step: a brick and mortar restaurant location. They are partnering up with EquityEats to launch a campaign to make this dream a reality. Support them by clicking
here.
UpDog Kombucha, a smallbatch kombucha microbrewery founded by Lauren Miller ('17) and Olivia Wolff ('16), continues to take Winston-Salem by storm.
Now as a part of a commercial kitchen and being sold on tap at Twin City Hive,
La Vie en Rose food truck, Krankies and other local hot spots and farmer's markets, it is time for UpDog Kombucha to expand. The girls are now pursuing producing Kombucha in kegs in addition to the traditional bottles and are looking to expand to other college towns, Elon being the first on the list. Keep up with their growth here.
