Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. ~1 Peter 3
Dear Friends,
Opportunities for conversation and education! Today I highlight two opportunities for you to consider:
- My Neighbor is Muslim- Exploring the Muslim Faith at connect360 Adult Education- Wednesdays at 6:30pm
How can we show respect for Muslim members of our community? As good neighbors, it is our responsibility to be culturally sensitive, aware and welcoming to our brothers and sisters from all over the world. Come and learn about the 5 Pillars of Islam (Sept. 21), Islam and Jesus (Sept. 28), Islam and Violence (Oct. 5), Islam and Women, and Living as a Muslim in the USA (Oct. 26).
2. Healing the Heart of Democracy- A Book Study on Tuesdays at 7pm
(Sept. 20: Chapters 1&2, Oct. 4: Chapters 3&4, Oct. 18: Chapters 5&6, Oct. 1: Chapters 7&8)
As we know, we are in the midst of what may be the most polarizing and contentious elections in recent U.S. history. Many observers note that the political rancor and rhetoric has reached all time highs, injecting unprece- dented fear, division, and unease into our culture. How do we make sense of this? How do people of faith respond? How do we remain calm and centered amidst our difference and tension, taking our roles as peace-makers and even prophets, seriously? Read the book- then let's talk!
From the Prelude- Healing the Heart of Democracy by Parker Palmer, he writes:
For those of us who want to see democracy survive and thrive-and we are legion-the heart is where everything begins: that grounded place in each of us where we can overcome fear, rediscover that we are members of one another, and embrace the conflicts that threaten democracy as openings to new life for us and for our nation.
Don't miss THIS WEDNESDAY - September 14:
- Burger Bash from 5-6pm
- Worship featuring Rachel Kurtz at 6pm
- Ministry Fair and Open House following worship!
See you on Wednesday AND Sunday- at Church!

Hosanna's Wednesday night program
returns on Sept 14th
The first night will start with a Meal served from 5pm until 6pm, followed by a special worship concert by singer/songwriter Rachel Kurtz
Rachel Kurtz is a Minneapolis-based songwriter, performer and recording artist. Churches across the country have discovered Rachel's powerhouse voice and joyful presence thanks to her relentless touring schedule, and her featured appearances on the main stage of recent national youth gathering. Her song "Make A Difference," unveiled at the 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering, has become a widespread sensation sung by praise bands, youth groups, and school choirs from coast to coast. Rachel has participated in benefit concert tours across the country with fellow musicians Agapé and Lost And Found, helping to raise $125,000 for ELCA World Hunger. In addition to her music leadership at conventions and congregations, Rachel is also an in-demand retreat facilitator and keynote speaker at youth weekends, women's retreats and many times at Sunday morning worship.
