GSU's elected officers  discuss union business, scope of Local 15 (CPS) bargaining unit 

The semi-annual meeting of GSU's Joint Executive Council (the union's board of directors) was held in Regina on September 9. All but two of the elected representatives were able to attend the meeting.
 
In a full day of union business, Council members received reports on union administration and finances, as well as current events and issues affecting members of the union.
 
A major item on the JEC meeting agenda was a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between CPS and GSU which provides an option to resolve matters pertaining to the scope of the union bargaining unit in Saskatchewan flowing out of CPS's October 23, 2015 successorship application to the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board (SLRB).
 
Council members voted to submit the MOA to the members of GSU Local 15 for approval or rejection in a vote to be conducted at the annual Sub-Local membership meetings this autumn. Arrangements are being made to distribute the MOA to Local 15 members via email in advance of the annual meetings.

GSU staff rep Dale Markling recently assisted a member who had questions about how long-term disability (LTD) works when you don't have enough sick leave days. 
 
In the majority of GSU's collective agreements, after a two-week waiting period members move to a medium-term sick leave until they reach the qualification date for LTD (120 days).

If your have questions about the sick leave or long-term disability provisions of your collective agreement, contact your GSU staff rep .

Discovery Co-op

The union committee will be presenting revised bargaining proposals to company representatives when the two sides meet on October 14.
 
GSU's Local 17 bargaining committee members are  Shelbi Prescesky, Glen Morrison, and GSU staff rep Dale Markling. 
 
  
Lloydminster & District Co-operative Association 

GSU bargaining spokesperson Dale Markling is working with Federated Co-op HR representative Matt Boyko to complete the final revisions on the new collective agreement. 
   
GSU's Local 18 bargaining committee members are Christina Jones, Les Strueby, and GSU staff rep Dale Markling


Prairie Co-op  

The union and company bargaining committees reached a tentative settlement during their August 12 bargaining session. In late August the union sent the proposed draft  memorandum of settlement to the company for review. We are awaiting a response. 
 
GSU's Local 19 bargaining committee members are Lindsay Hill (Strasbourg), Debbie Hillier (Cupar), and Steve Torgerson (GSU staff rep). 


Western Producer

Bargaining gets underway for this local on October 18 and 19.

The local's current collective agreement expired July 31, 2016.  

GSU's Local 20 bargaining committee members are Kim Quintin, Michelle Houlden, Laurie Michalycia, and Dale Markling (GSU staff rep). 

CHS Canada

The local's current collective agreement expires October 31, 2016. 

The company has been served notice to bargain and GSU staff rep Steve Torgerson will be meeting with the members to discuss bargaining proposals.

Congratulations to our latest ticket winners Scott Robertson (Local 4 - Grain Millers) and Trisha Clarke (Local 15 - CPS). 

Trisha and Scott made their Banjo Bowl predictions and they each won two tickets to the Riders September 18 game against the Eskimos. (Scott believed the Riders could pull off a win. Trisha told us she had lost all faith in the Rider coaching staff and thought they would lose. Unfortunately, Trisha's answer was correct.)
