Horse Costume Class Added
A costume class has been added to the Armada Fair Horse Show schedule at the request of 4-H volunteer, Gina Colombo. There will be no formal entry, therefore, no premiums will be paid. Ribbons will be distributed to the class. The class will take place at the end of the show schedule as it has in previous years. Since two additional speed classes were tentatively added, it will fall as class #54. If fair superintendents feel that there is a time constraint and decide to cancel the two new speed classes (#52 and #53), the costume class will be moved up to class slot #52. This would follow the routinely scheduled Keyhole class (#51).

Leaders, please share this information with your club as it takes time to get costumes prepared for horse and rider. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Gina at gtcolombo@comcast.net.

Schramm is the 2016 Armada Fair Dog Project Superintendent
Thank you to Chylie Schramm for being this year's dog superintendent. Schramm is a lifelong 4-H member and we're looking forward to working with her.

Superintendents Needed for 2017 Armada Fair

Submit Fair Book Change Requests by December 12
The Fair Board has notified the MSUE Office that the 4-H program is able to suggest changes, additions or deletions to the 2017 Armada Fair Youth Organization Book. The Armada Fair Board will be incorporating their own changes into the book. Suggestions for changes are due to the Armada Fair Office by December 12, 2016.

As a reminder, the 4-H Program is able to institute changes every three years. The current suggestions will be effective for the 2017 Armada Fair and will remain in effect until after the 2019 Armada Fair. The next opportunity to change the book will be September-December 2019.

Statewide 4-H News
And the Award Goes to . . . !!
Summer is a busy time when 4-H members may receive awards for their past year's achievements. The following is news about a few of the awards for which Michigan 4-H  members may be eligible.

The State 4-H Awards Program is the highest honor bestowed on Michigan 4-H youth aged 13 and up who have at least three years of 4-H experience. After careful review of the nominees' applications by selection committees, delegates were invited to participate in either an advanced leadership development program (juniors) or competitive interviews (seniors). The 2016 winners   were announced at the 4-H Recognition Program during 4-H Exploration Days .

4-H'ers who are 11 or 12 years old are eligible to apply for the 4-H Mark of Excellence Award . To enter, a young person needs to write an essay on the theme, "Because of 4-H I can . . . ." Counties select their representatives, and submit names and essays to the State 4-H Awards Committee. The 2016 winners received a certificate and a medal through the mail. Additionally, their essays will be added to the Mark of Excellence history book at Kettunen Center and will be used by both the Michigan 4-H Foundation and the State 4-H Office.

We are excited that in 2016, Michigan 4-H Youth Development  will award one volunteer leader and one 4-H member with the second annual Michigan 4-H Animal Science Sportsperson of the Year Award . If you know a 4-H'er (last year's winner, Cassie Holladay) or an adult (last year's winner, Mary Adams) who exemplifies the definition of good sportsmanship in any of the 4-H animal science project areas , consider nominating him or her by completing and sending in the nomination form , which includes a nomination letter and a letter of support from county 4-H staff, by October 1, 2016 .
