" Give something, however small, to the one in need. For it is not small to one who has nothing. Neither is it small to God, if we have given what we could."

From Mrs. Rowley

It was so great to see so many of you at Back-to-School Night. I hope you enjoyed the classroom visits. Much gratitude to our PTO Board as well. Many exciting things are in store for this year, and we appreciate their leadership. Sometime next week we will be doing a test of the emergency communication system. I will give advance notice on when that will be.

This week our preschoolers had the option of attending Lunch Bunch or the first time. This gives them an extension of their school day and a time to socialize.

There has been a lot of energy around the school - exciting, creative lessons, online testing, and getting back into our routine. I realize more and more each day what a wonderful faculty and staff we have at St. Ambrose School. Go team!

Each day we keep one St. Ambrose family in special prayer. I send that family an email - so watch out for yours! Please keep us in your prayers, as we keep you in ours. God bless.

Teaching Children Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is a relatively new psychological concept, but it has been backed by years of research. This kind of intelligence enables people to have positive interactions with others, to predict others' thoughts and feelings, and to engage in appropriate levels of empathy. Emotional intelligence is strongly correlated with career and academic success because emotionally intelligent people earn the trust of their superiors, make colleagues feel valued, and attract admirers wherever they go. Like other forms of intelligence, early experiences and direct teaching can help children master the fine art of relating to other people. Here is what you can do to help a child learn this valuable skill.

St Ambrose Picnic September 25, 2016 (1pm-4pm)

Dear Parents,

This Sunday (September 25th) St. Ambrose will be hosting a parish wide picnic with fun activities for both young and old.  We will be using the area behind the school and have reserved the playground down the hill behind the police station.  Your children will have so much fun playing on the moon bounce or participating in the obstacle course or playing giant twister and a host of other games.  Pony rides will be available starting at 2 pm.

There will be music, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones and St. Ambrose will provide hamburgers, hotdogs, beverages, paper supplies and we are asking families to bring the following: Families with last names starting with:
·       "A to K " to bring a side dish or salad
·       "L-M" please bring at least 2 large bags of chips or other snacks
·       "N-Z" please bring along a dessert

For adults we will be selling beer and wine and we will be offering handicap parking in front of the school for those that need it.  Most of you will want to park behind the police station.  If you did not RSVP, no worry we have ordered extra food and will take care of you.  We ask everyone to bring chairs, blankets and canopies for your own family.

CureSearch Walk of Northern Virginia

It's time for the annual CureSearch Walk of Northern Virginia, and we are once again assembling Team Beau.  Beau is a St. Ambrose alum, Ewing Sarcoma survivor, and pediatric cancer research advocate.  The St. Ambrose School community really rallied around Beau as he fought cancer in the 6th grade, but the fight for additional research is far from over.  This is a quick video that we put together to tell Beau's story which included every one of the 6th grade boys and their teacher shaving their heads to support Beau:

We'd love the St. Ambrose community to join us on the Tysons Plaza on Sunday, October 16th to lend their hearts and muscle to take a stand against childhood cancer.  Over the years, a lot of St. Ambrose families have participated,  It's an uplifting, family event that is a ton of fun.
