DAAD German Studies Research Grant REINSTATED

This specialized DAAD program once again offers German Studies Research Grants to highly-qualified undergraduate, graduate and PhD students at American and Canadian universities who are nominated by their department/program chairs. The grant may be used for short-term research (i.e., 1-2 months) in Germany.

The program is designed to encourage research and promote the study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary German affairs from an interdisciplinary perspective. Additional grants will be made available for research projects in Germany on the social, communal, and intellectual history of German-speaking Jewry and stipends awarded in conjunction with the Leo Baeck Institute in New York.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until further notice.

kurzundschn - International Competition for Young Creatives

Organized by the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) and the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Kln (WDR), kurzundschn has taken place every year since 1997. This competition for newcomers links the KHMs trans-media concept with parts of the WDRs brief as a public broadcaster: supporting young artistic and creative talent, creating media crossovers and promoting short, contemporary formats.

kurzundschn is an international competition, exclusively for students and trainees in the field of audiovisual media. Every year prizes with a total value of EUR 30,000 are awarded in the categories: feature film (up to 15 mins.), Animation (up to 15 mins.), Artistic/Experimental Film (up to 15 mins.): Commercials/educational ads (up to 3 mins.), Motion Design (up to 7 mins.), publicART (up to 10 mins.), Walk & Watch - cinema in transit on Infoscreens (up to 20 secs.) and the WDR category.

Young Ambassador Program: This is a great program for helping returning study abroad students put their newfound knowledge and experience to good use.

DAAD Young Ambassadors are undergraduate students from North America who have recently studied or interned in Germany and are interested in promoting study in Germany at their home institutions. DAAD has about 30 spots available for students from all over the US and Canada to share with their peers what makes Germany such a unique and attractive destination for study and research abroad. DAAD Young Ambassadors are responsible for organizing at least one event per semester on their campuses to promote study and research in Germany. Additionally, they will collaborate with their universities' study abroad offices and other German institutions in their areas to inform their fellow students on educational and research opportunities in Germany. DAAD Young Ambassadors are also available for email inquiries about their respective German host universities, study abroad programs or about life as a student in Germany in general. Their contact information as well as short profiles can be found on the DAAD website. Please visit http://www.daad.org/ya2013-14 to learn more about the current DAAD Young Ambassadors.

Although students may apply directly to DAAD to become a Young Ambassador, special preference will be given to candidates nominated by their university's study abroad office. (Only one student should be nominated per college or university.)

Complete program information, including application and nomination forms, is available at: www.daad.org/ambassadors_application
Deadline for application is May 18, 2014.
