Upcoming Events
Back to School Potluck / Fall Family Movie Night
Friday, September 16th, 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Whittier Elementary Playground / Gym & Lunchroom

  • Bring the whole family and a dish to share (e.g., main dish, side/appetizer, dessert, etc.). Be sure to label your dishes. 
  • Provide your own beverages.
    (Water will be available; no alcohol permitted.)
  • The Whittier PTA provides plates, napkins, cups and utensils.
  • "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" starts @ 7:30. 

Calling all Wildcats!  Only 46 days until Fall Carnival!
This year's Fall Carnival is on Friday, October 28th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. You don't want to miss out on this night of fun and games with your Whittier community. Wear your costume and join us in treating our kids to a great time!

As always,  we need many volunteers  to pull this off. To make the night a success, we need your help!  Especially needed are volunteers to run activities the night of the event. We will have sign ups soon, so stay tuned for more information and be thinking about how you can help.  
PTA Information
* FINAL WEEK * Bailey Gatzert School Supply Drive

Bailey Gatzert Elementary is Whittier's sister school. Each year we run a scho ol supplies drive, holiday gift drive and book drive to support their school. Please consider picking up a few extra supplies (see the list here ) and drop them in the labeled boxes near the Whittier office. The drive ends this Friday, Sept. 16th.


WildChat Now Delivered on Tuesdays
The 2016-2017 WildChat will be delivered to inboxes on Tuesdays. Content should be submitted via email no later than Monday at noon for Tuesday publication.


Spirit Gear Orders Due Friday, September 23rd
Wildcat fans, it's not too late to order your gear! Spirit Gear order forms will go home with your child this week. Access an electronic copy of the form and view product mock-ups on the Spirit Gear page .

Completed forms are due Friday, Sept. 23rd, and can be returned via your child's KidMail folder or directly to the front office. We will also have a table at the Back to School Potluck this Friday, Sept. 16th, where you can check out sizes in person or buy some of last year's remaining merchandise.

Payment by cash or check (made out to Whittier PTA) is preferred; credit cards will be accepted at the Potluck/Movie Night. Spirit Gear is a fundraiser and all proceeds go to our PTA. Questions to  Misha.


2017 Chinook Books on Sale Through Friday, Oct. 7th
Purchase your Chinook Book or Chinook Book app at the Back to School Potluck this Friday, Sept. 16th, or in the Whittier lobby weekdays Sept. 26th - Oct. 7th (before school 7:40am - 8:05am; after school 1:50pm - 2:15pm)

The book features more than 600 coupons to great local businesses. The cost of the book is typically recouped using only 2-3 coupons.

Reflections Art Contest
Your child has the opportunity to be a part of the Whittier Wildcats PTA Arts Contest!

This year's theme is "What's Your Story". Entries from all grade levels and abilities encouraged. Every participating student receives a participation ribbon and their artwork will be displayed in the school lobby! Entries may be submitted in six art areas: Choreography/Dance, Film/Video, Photography, Literature, Music Composition, and Visual Arts (drawing, painting, etc.). Deadline for entries is Oct. 28th.

Look for more information coming soon in your child's KidMail folder. We are hopeful for a great Wildcat turnout! 

School & District News
Advanced Learning Testing
Seattle Public Schools is now accepting referrals for Advanced Learning Program testing.  Information and referral forms are available here .  The deadline for applications is Oct. 6th; no late forms will be accepted.


Instrumental Music Update for 4th & 5th Grade Families
In the coming weeks, Elementary Instrumental Music (EIM) will begin for 4th and 5th graders. Enrollment forms were sent home last week. If you did not receive an enrollmen t form and are interested in the program, please contact Heidi Wachter .


Back-to-School Paperwork
Back-to-school paperwork packets were sent home last week with students whose families who were unable to attend Fill Us In. Please complete and return the required paperwork to the office no later than Friday, Sept. 16.


Growth Boundaries Community Meetings, September & October
Five community meetings will be held this fall to provide information about the upcoming school boundary changes for the 2017-2018 school year. These changes do affect the attendance areas for Whittier and Whitman. See the schedule below; more information here.

Before & After School Student Activities
After School Enrichment Classes @ Whittier
After school enrichment classes will be offered at Whittier during the 2016-2017 school year, facilitated by staff from Loyal Heights Community Center / Seattle Parks and Recreation. 

Registration is underway and classes are filling quickly. Programming begins the week of Sept. 19th. Printed program catalogs are available in the office; find an electronic copy  here.


Wildcat Recreation with Mr. Pule
Mr. Pule will offer both before- and after-school recreation programs
during the 2016-2017 school year. The Fall sessions begin during the we ek of Sept. 19th. Information and registration forms can be found

Girls on the Run
A quick note to interested runners that Girls on the Run will only be offered in the Spring this year. Look for information when the flowers start to bloom!  

Volunteer Information
Wil dChat Editor Needed
The PTA Communications Team is currently seeking an Editor for the WildChat. The position requires a weekly time commitment, and will work closely with the PTA Communications Chair and the Website Editor. If you have strong writing and organizational skills, and an interest in volunteering, we'd love to hear from you. Email  Amy Bryan with questions or to express interest.


Week 1 Volunteers Needed - After School Enrichment Classes
Loyal Heights Community Center staff is seeking 1-2 volunteers each day for the first week of after school programs (Sept. 19th - 23rd) to help get kids to the meeting spaces and assist with attendance and other issues. Contact Amy Patrick if you are available and interested.


Required Volunteer Paperwork
To volunteer at Whittier during the 2016-2017 school year, you will need to complete the necessary paperwork. Printed volunteer packets are available in the office or you can find the information and documents you need  here.


Open 2016-2017 Volunteer Positions
Team up with a friend and contribute your own flavor to the Whittier community. Volunteers are needed ASAP to fill several event and PTA positions. Visit the  Current Volunteer Openings page for more details.
