New RISE Website Launches, Databases for RISE Germany and RISE Professional Opening Soon

DAAD is pleased to announce that it will offer its internship programs again in summer 2016: RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) Germany, and RISE professional. RISE has established itself as an outstanding opportunity to combine serious research with a rewarding study-abroad experience. All three programs are targeted to students from the fields of engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences (geology) and related disciplines.

RISE Germany provides undergraduates in the USA and Canada the opportunity to gain practical experience by matching them with PhD research projects in Germany. RISE professional similarly places graduate students and above in German companies in STEM fields. Participants receive a DAAD scholarship to help cover living expenses and travel costs. The RISE website was recently revamped to provide up-to-date information for prospective applicants for each of the three programs. Check out the new website here: https://www.daad.de/rise/en/. The internship databases will open on December 1, 2015 and contain detailed information on all the opportunities for students in the summer of 2016.

German Studies Association: Call for Seminar Proposals

In response to the success of the last two years’ seminar programs, the 40th GSA Conference in San Diego, California (September 29-October 2, 2016), will continue to host a series of seminars in addition to its regular conference sessions and roundtables.

Seminars are meant to meet for all three days of the conference to explore new avenues of academic exchange and foster extended discussion, rigorous intellectual debate, and intensified networking. Seminars are typically proposed and led by two to three conveners and they consist of approximately 12 to 20 participants, including representation from different disciplines, a representative number of graduate students and faculty of different ranks. Seminar proposers should design topics that will suit the three-day structure of the conference and also submit a list of potential applicants while providing enough room for other GSA members to participate. Please submit the title and a 100-word description of your seminar by November 23, 2015.

The GSA Seminar Program Committee consists of
Heikki Lempa (Moravian College)| [email protected]
Darcy Buerkle (Smith College) │ [email protected]
Carrie Smith-Prei (University of Alberta) │ [email protected]

Please direct all inquiries and proposals to all three contacts. For more details, please click here.
