Host a German research intern with RISE worldwide!

The deadline is quickly approaching for DAAD's RISE worldwide program. Institutions and PhD candidates interested in hosting German students can submit project offers until October 15th, 2015 online at http://www.daad.de/rise-weltweit/en/index.html. RISE worldwide offers research groups, laboratories and doctoral students the chance to apply to host a motivated and well-qualfied German undergraduate student as a research intern. Students participating in this program come from the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, medicine or a closely related field, and receive a DAAD scholarship to help cover living expenses and travel costs.

Between November 1, 2015 and December 15, 2015, the database will be open to German students and each student may apply for up to three internship projects. The prospective hosts are then asked to provide DAAD with their assessment of the applications to their projects.

Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the DAAD's RISE office in Bonn by writing [email protected].

Dr. William Gray Receives the 2015 DAAD Prize for Distinguished Scholarship

Dr. William Gray, Associate Professor of History at Purdue University, is this year’s recipient of the annual DAAD Prize for Distinguished Scholarship in German and European Studies due to his outstanding academic work in the field of Politics and International Relations.

Dr. Gray’s work investigates the historical workings of international systems in various contexts with a focus on German politics. His first book "Germany’s Cold War: The Global Campaign to Isolate East Germany, 1949-1969" (UNC Press, 2003), examined how West Germany’s efforts to keep the GDR off the international stage impacted the non-aligned world. As an assistant professor, he was recruited by the leadership of the German Studies Association (GSA) in 2007 to convene a forum for junior historians at the annual GSA meeting. In 2013, he played another decisive role in a committee charting the future of the GSA. On occasion of the 25th Anniversary of German Unity, Dr. William Gray shared with AICGS his assessment of the evolvement of Germany’s leadership in Europe and the maturing of German-U.S. relations in global affairs. The DAAD Prize for Distinguished Scholarship carries a stipend of $5,000, which will be awarded at AICGS’ annual Global Leadership Award Dinner on November 5 in New York City. For further information on this prize, please visit: www.daad.org/aicgsresearch2.
