TU9 Roadshow across the USA: Research Opportunities in Germany

TU9, the alliance of leading Institutes of Technology in Germany, is coming to the U.S. this summer to present career opportunities at their universities and discuss the academic job market in Germany. Possibilities for research collaboration in the fields of cybersecurity, renewable energy, mobility and medical technology will also be explored. Info sessions and networking receptions will be held in San Francisco (August 30), Atlanta (Sept. 1) and Pittsburgh (Sept. 2).

All academic levels and backgrounds are welcome; the following groups are particularly encouraged to attend:
      • Advanced doctoral students
      • Postdocs
      • Researchers
      • Faculty
      • Potential industry partners.

The TU9 delegation will include senior-level representatives from each of the nine member universities (RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin, TU Braunschweig, TU Darmstadt, TU Dresden, Universität Hannover, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, TU München, and Universität Stuttgart).

The TU9 universities educate the majority of engineers coming out of Germany and roughly ten percent of all students in the country, with a wide variety of English-language programs for international students, as well.

Erasmus Program Increasingly Popular Despite Financial Crisis

The DAAD study "Student and Staff Mobility in Times of Crisis" has found that the number of students doing internships through the Erasmus Program has risen dramatically, despite financial crises in several European countries. The increased popularity indicates that students see international interships as a good way to bolster their qualifications and competitiveness on the job market after graduation. Across the member states of the Erasmus Program, participation in study and internships abroad has risen by 6% and 16%, respectively, between the academic years 2008-09 and 2012-13.

This study was co-funded by the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It can be viewed online at http://eu.daad.de/mobility_in_times_of_crisis_2014.
