Universities in North Rhine Westphalia implement integration plan for refugees The integration scheme NRWege ins Studium is now underway at universities in North Rhine Westphalia after being presented in April. 34 public universities in the NRW can now apply for additional funding for academic counseling. DAAD is assisting in the design and implementation of this program, which goes into effect in 2017. As the most heavily populated German state, NRW also takes in the highest number of refugees: 230,000 in 2015 and an additional 65,000 as of July 2016. NRWege ins Studium therefore takes into account refugees that would like to start or resume their studies in Germany, and provides 30 million euro annually to help universities prepare and advise them on the German higher education system.
