We're very excited to announce our new quarterly newsletter "QuIps". This will be a place for the National STD Quality Improvement Center to keep all of our National PTC partners in the loop, share resources, and highlight innovative QI projects!
The Spotlight
The New York State Department of Health, the Erie County Department of Health, and the NYC STD/HIV Prevention Training Center are partnering on an enhanced evaluation project to increase Chlamydia (CT) screening of age-eligible sexually-active females in high volume primary care practices in Erie County NY.
Background:
Erie County is situated in Western New York and had the highest 2013 CT rate in NYS overall and the highest age-specific rates among females in NYS.
2012 Quality Assurance Reporting Requirements data suggest that many eligible 16-24 year old females in WNYS are not receiving recommended preventive services.
Specifically, among six WNYS health plans, reported CT screening among 16-24 year old female MMC enrollees was 63-73%, and among commercially-insured enrollees 44-60% were screened.
Project:
The proposed project goal is to increase CT screening of age-eligible sexually-active females and males in high volume primary care practices in Erie County.
Activities:
Academic Detailing Model
To increase provider awareness and assess barriers to CT screening to inform a quality improvement (QI) plan for implementation by participating practices.
Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) Cycle
CT screening HEDIS data collected after each cycle will measure improvement with feedback to providers to promote continuous QI.
Collaboration
The project will be a collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics with all project materials, including data collection instruments and QI resources, will be available on an American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) Quality Improvement Data Aggregator (QIDA) web tool which creates a unified structure for the collection, analysis, and reporting of improvement data.
Participating providers will be eligible for up to 20 CME hours or Maintenance of Certification (MOC) part 4 credit through the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP)
