Seasons of LIFE and the Gift of Autumn
|
|
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven..." ~Ecclesiastes 3
Dear Friends~
I know people who say, "Life is like a game of chance - some win, some lose." But that metaphor can create a fatalism about losing or an obsession with beating the odds. I know other people who say, "Life is like a battlefield - you get the enemy, or the enemy gets you." But that metaphor can result in enemies around every corner and a constant sense of siege. We do well to choose our metaphors wisely.
On the cusp of the Autumnal Equinox, I invite you to consider "Seasons" is a metaphor for the movement of life. It suggests that life is neither a battlefield nor a game of chance but something infinitely richer, more promising, more real. The notion that our lives are like the eternal cycle of the seasons does not deny the struggle or the joy, the loss or the gain, the darkness or the light, but encourages us to embrace it all - and to find in all of it opportunities for growth.
For me, Autumn brings an array of sentiments:
Yes, Autumn is a season of great beauty, but it is also a season of decline: the days grow shorter and summer's abundance decays toward winter's death. Faced with this inevitable winter, what does nature do in autumn? Here is something to remember: In Autumn, nature scatters the seeds that will bring new growth in the spring - and she scatters them with amazing and wild abandon. This is hard for us to see, this new life being planted, but it is a reminder of the nature of seasons and the importance of each season of life.
Let us rejoice in God's promise of abundant LIFE during each season of life!
See you at Church!
~Pastor Linda

Meet Hosanna's New Bookkeeper
|
|
My name is Robbyn Graves. I have been married for 33 years to my husband Greg. We have lived in Lino Lakes since 1989. Our son Jeff (31) and his wife Kelley live in Andover and have 3 children: Connor (almost 5), Jordan (3) and Bennett (2 months). Daughter Julie (29) and husband Graig live in Ankeny, Iowa and have 2 children: Camden (3) and Alison (6 months). I am a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Lino Lakes.
I retired from Land O' Lakes, Inc in November 2014 after almost 16 years of service. I took time off to help with our growing family but I have decided to get back into the work force. I am excited about this new venture in my life and look forward to meeting all of you.

Healing the Heart of Democracy-
The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit
by Parker Palmer
The author looks with realism and hope at how to deal with our political tensions for the sake of the common good.
Palmer writes:
For those of use who want to see democracy survive and thrive - and we are legion-the heart is where everything begins: that grounded place in each of us where we can overcome fear, rediscover that we are members of one another, and embrace the conflicts that threaten democracy as openings to new life for us and for our nation.
Read the book, then come for the discussions at 7pm on Tuesdays:
- September 20: chpt 1-2
- October 4: chpt 3-4
- October 18: chpt 5-6
- November 1: chpt 7-8
