It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the demise of the mother of our dear brother, Kalim Farooki. Br. Kalim has been with the Shura Council in one capacity or another since it's inception. Br. Kalim is currently Development Director of the Shura Council and is on the board of trustees for the Islamic Society of Corona-Norco.

May Allah, Subhanahutala, place the departed soul in eternal peace in Jannatul Firdous and may He  grant all family members courage, patience, strength and solace to bear the irreparable loss.

Condolences may be emailed to the Shura Council office at  [email protected] and will be forwarded to Br. Kalim and his family.  Please keep the Farooki family in your duaas and prayers.



OPEN MOSQUE DAY 2016
 
The recent intolerable events in New York , New Jersey and Minnesota saddens us as a community. The Shura Council condemns these attacks, and others, as un-Islamic and inhuman. Unfortunately, these events give political fodder to those who seek to marginalize Islam and Muslims

For this, and many other reasons,  Open Mosque Day 2016 is the Muslim community's opportunity to dispel myths about Muslims and Islam. Sunday, October 23, 2016 has been designated Open Mosque Day. Click here to see a list of participating centers. This list is updated frequently.

NEWS
 
Reports show that the British ambassador to Saudi Arabia recently completed Hajj. This is the first Hajj ever made by a  senior UK diplomat. We wish Hajj Mabrur to all of the returning pilgrims and may the creator of us all accept it.

The California Islamic University is starting its fall semester on September 26, 2016. There's still time to enroll! Click here for more information.

The Shura Council Chairman, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, along with its board, staff and volunteers, congratulate the Orange County Catholic Archdiocese on its 40-year anniversary. 

UC Berkeley administration  reinstated the course "Palestine: A Settler Colonial Analysis" after its suspension last week.  Dr. Hatem Bazian, Chair of the Northern California Council, stated " The administration's reversal should be seen as a direct result of the massive academic and community response to the highly political decision that censored academic inquiry."

With the recent events, we wonder are Muslims the most disliked group in the U.S.? One study says so.

A Stanford University Muslimah is featured in a football contest promotion and the social media circus begins.

New York's fashion week featured an all-hijab show. The first of it's kind.
