Greetings from the China Gateway director
Phoebe You, director of the China Gateway
Even after so many years graduated from Ohio State, I still miss the golden fall of the Oval on campus.

Later this month, I will be transitioning from a city of 23 million to a world-class institution of diversity and vibrancy. I am excited.

I plan to make a cultural exchange while I am on campus. For the first time, our office and the East Asian Studies Center will together host an Asian Culture Workshop in September, aiming to increase campus awareness and understanding of Asian culture. During the workshop, an informative presentation comparing Asian and American educational systems will be presented, and an international student panel will convene to share their own educational experience.

I would also like to let you know that your support has made a difference in our work and in the engagement of greater China.

In this newsletter we will feature the most recent formation of our first Shanghai advisory and executive boards. I joined as a member and the entire experience was more than a full charge of buckeye spirit.
We will also share the first career fair we co-hosted for the Chinese students and alumni in Beijing and Shanghai in August with American Universities' China Association.

In addition to all the "outdoor engagement" in all parts of China, the China Gateway is regularly visited and greeted by university and corporate partners, alumni, parents and prospective students.

Even though our functions are more diversified, we work in unity and know the essence that unites us.

Let's go Bucks!

Ohio State Alumni Club of Shanghai holds board elections
The Ohio State China Gateway hosted the first general meeting for the Ohio State Alumni Club of Shanghai on August 27. During the meeting, elections were held for the executive and advisory alumni boards.

The advisory board elected 12 board members, co-chaired by Desmond Thio, CEO of Delta Health China, and Michelle Huang, CEO of SourceLimit. Eleven board members were elected to the executive board, which is chaired by Maoyen Chi, CEO of Cold Spring Harbor. Chairs for the advisory board will serve for six months and all other board members will serve for at least 12 months.

"The next few years will be an important and critical time for our alumni club. In our local Buckeye community, the ages and backgrounds are becoming more and more diverse. Our executive board will reach out to alumni to gather talent and our advisory board will work on a rotation of responsibilities," said Thio, advisory board co-chair.

China Gateway to pave career paths for alumni and current students
The Ohio State China Gateway has built many partnerships with international corporations through the Global Internship Program and American Universities' China Association (AUCA). Thanks to the success of these partnerships, the China Gateway will collaborate with five American universities to create a shared career resources center in China. The center will provide opportunities to the university's alumni and current students.

The China Gateway has also been involved in other career resource activities by actively assisting in the planning of two half-day career fairs in China. The first career fair took place in Shanghai on August 6 and attracted 70 of the top firms and over 1,100 Chinese professionals. The second fair in Beijing on August 13 had over 50 firms and 700 attendees, 200 of which were Ohio State alumni and students. Several of the companies in attendance included J.P. Morgan, Apple, IBM, Abercrombie & Fitch, Ernst & Young, Bloomberg, Audi and Kantar Retail.
