Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 1 Corinthians 12: 12

September 9, 2016

Dear North Community Catholic School Families:

Today we enjoyed hosting our grandparents.  It was so nice to see so many grandparents and other special guests here with the students!  I hope everyone enjoyed their visit!  Thanks to our Parents' Association for helping us coordinate our reception today!  We couldn't do it without you!

One of my favorite job duties is the time that I spend visiting classrooms.  I very much like to know what is going on, what the students are learning, and how the students are interacting with each other and their teachers.  I have noticed on my walkthroughs that we have some students not fully in dress code.  For example, I have seen khaki pants in the grades K-4, and khaki is strictly for grades 5-8.  I have seen young ladies in navy blue skirts and jumpers.  Skirts and jumpers must be our approved plaid from SchoolBelles.  Only pants and walking shorts can be navy.  I am attaching a copy of the dress code here ( click for link)so that everyone can review it.  Please be sure your students are fully in dress code for school.

Next Friday, September 16, is a free day for students, and a professional day for our teaching staff.  We will be having some professional development provided by Dr. Timothy Murnen from BGSU related to our school improvement goal on the teaching of writing in all subjects.

I hope all of you enjoy a restful and fun weekend! Best of luck to our Charger/Saints athletic teams who are playing this weekend!

    Peace and Blessings,
Mrs. Beth Strbik
Principal

Important information for all school volunteers:
Our school community welcomes and encourages volunteerism.  Many events depend on support from volunteers, and we need your support.  The Diocese of Toledo has adopted new policies regarding volunteers who come in contact with students.  Please click here and carefully read the new requirements for ALL volunteers who work with students.

Important attendance information:
State law requires parents to notify school when their child is absent.  If your child needs to be absent from school or will be arriving late due to an appointment, please call the school before 8:30 a.m.

BSPA News
Parents Association News

The Parents Association sends a warm thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers! Whether you helped with the Color Run or at the Grandparents Day reception today, you make our school a better place. Thank you so much for all of your kindness and service! We can do so much with your help.

Please remember to register at www.virtusonline.org if you plan to volunteer with us in the future!

BSPA Meeting: Wednesday Sept. 14, 7:00 PM at the Parish Center If you would like to be involved in the leadership of the BSPA, or would like to be one of our special "worker bee" volunteers who help plan events, this meeting is for you! Those who attend also receive a jeans day pass for each child you have enrolled in our school. Come join us!

Chess Club
Chess Club will begin Tuesday September 13, at 2:30 in Room 108.  No need to sign up, just show up.  Students will have a chance to learn the basic elements of chess and develop their own strategies to win.  In November we will play in a tournament between multiple schools.  We will only practice on Tuesdays to start.  Students that aren't picked up or known to walk home on their own at 3:40 will be taken to latchkey.

Any questions?   [email protected]

NCCS Facebook
Dear Parents,

We have created Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts for NCCS, the North Community Catholic School.  The purpose of these accounts will be to share all of the amazing things happening at the St. Catherine's Early Childhood Education Center Campus, Regina Coeli Campus, and Most Blessed Sacrament Campus through one public account.  By following NCCS on Facebook, you will also find events from all of the schools and parishes which will strengthen our NCCS community.  Feel free to send any pictures you take of our schools to [email protected] or tag us in the post.  Please follow us at the North Community Catholic School Facebook Page, Twitter: @nccs_toledo, Instagram: @nccstoledo Hashtag is #NCCSToledo.  Also, please visit our website at www.nccstoledo.org!

Gym Clothes
All NCCS students in grades 2-8 must have official NCCS physical education uniforms to wear in PE class.  Students dress in their school uniforms and change for gym into the PE uniform.   You can order these uniforms at www.jazztextiles.com.   Select the online store, and our access code is BSNCCS.

Also available at this site are school uniform approved full zip fleece jackets and 1/4 zip pull over fleece to keep our kids warmer during the colder months, in adult sizes as well.  Like the gym uniform, they can be ordered any time and will be delivered to the school.

Fall Sports Sign-Up Change
Our students have the ability to participate in a variety of sports through the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish CYO athletic program.  Since the athletic program runs through the parish, not our school, you can find information about athletics on the parish website at www.blessedsacramenttoledo.com under "activities and events" and "youth board."  Fall sports include cross country, volleyball, football, flag football, soccer, and cheerleading.
Sign-ups are done electronically with instructions posted under the website listed above.

SCRIP
Shopping for groceries, filling the tank with gas, eating at a favorite restaurant....These routine things we do every week have proven to be a great way for Blessed Sacrament parents to shave off money from their child's tuition.  You purchase gift cards or certificates from places you shop at anyway and the discount goes back to your child's tuition.  More than 200 local businesses participate in the SCRIP program.  Families who purchase the certificates can designate that their portion be applied to their tuition bill.  To purchase SCRIP, contact Katie at [email protected] or phone her at 419-438-0476.

Recycleable Collection Items

"The Environmental Club would like to remind you that we collect the following items to send to Terracycle in exchange for money.  The money earned is used for supplies for our Religion classes and to purchase peanut butter, jelly, and bread for the lunchroom for students who forget their lunch.  We have listed the items acceptable to recycle.  Please send them in with your child.  We ask that you continue saving the items during the summer vacation.  Thank you to those who have been assisting us already."
