Clean Out Your Files

Occasionally, I convince myself to clean out closets, drawers, rooms and the garage in order to find those things that are no longer used by anyone and just take up space. Those of you with children know the toys that your child "cannot live without," at least for that first week. Those same toys soon end up collecting dust in the corner. For others, you just had to buy that new outfit because it was such a good deal. In some cases, you bought it because it was cheap, but you also were hoping that it would be an incentive to begin that exercise routine. Regardless, we all tend to hang on to things that are not necessary for survival or moving forward.

As I began working in my new office this summer, I decided to clean out the office files and reorganize them so that they would fit my own system of organization. I figured that this would also help me familiarize myself with the new position and the new school. I was not surprised to find that there were some files that contained old and outdated information, especially regarding product warranties and drills. Although it has been quite interesting to take a walk in the archives of the school, it has also prompted me to think about the personal but not forgotten "files" that all of us carry around on a daily basis.

Cleaning out files symbolizes a new beginning or a way to look to the future and what is to come. There are many times in our lives when we need to look at our past and decide if certain "files" are worth keeping. I cannot imagine that God hangs on to the past as we do. Needless to say, we can all recall times where we found ourselves in situations we knew were questionable or that we knew were wrong. We tend to hang on to those "files" and review them often. However, our God is a God of forgiveness and of new beginnings. He is more than willing to help us re-organize and clean out those old files that we have been carrying around for so long. He only wants us to look at our past if it helps us work on the present and redirect for the future. He wants us to regularly clean out our files so that we have room for Him and for the future he has laid out for us. A student once tried to convince me that the past is exactly that; it is behind us. There is nothing one can do to change what has happened or what one did. The present is a gift and something that should be held precious by all. This gift helps to determine our future. Granted, the student was arguing about the fact that he was not completing assignments consistently in the past, but was trying to convince me that he was planning on doing so in the future; still, he had a good point.

So, we find ourselves at the beginning of a new school year. The excitement of the new year has been replaced with the excitement of a weekend. Some of us may still be hanging on to what another person said or did to us last year or even last week and we just cannot let it go. Others may be remembering what they did or did not do in the past and believe that everyone else remembers, too. A new season requires us to reorganize or clean out our files. Do you have what it takes to recycle and toss out the unnecessary information that you have been carrying around with you so that you can begin again?
Student Council - Congratulations to our new BCA Middle School Student Council members: (l. to. r.) Tray Scott, River Polley, Page Swafford,  Ryan Berry and Nolan Cardillo.  We are looking forward to seeing what they are going to do for our student body under the direction and support of Mrs. Mietzner and Mrs. Roelfs.

Cookie Dough Sales - We just want to remind you that we are about mid-way through our fall fundraiser.  All orders are due on Mon., Sept. 19.  That means that your student has two weekends to sell and raise funds for technology and training.

Substitutes Needed and Wanted - If you or someone you know is interested in being a substitute in the building, we would love to talk with you and see where we could plug you in here at BCA.

15-hour Cafeteria Job Available - Tammy Antwine is looking to hire someone to work in the cafeteria approximately 15 hours per week, which would vary when she is unable to be there.  Please call the school office (423-622-3755) if you are interested or know someone who would be.  Nothing better than working with hungry kids and making sure that they are well-fed and sent off to class.

Attendance - We appreciate your help ingetting your student here every morning and on time.  Please remember that your student will be marked tardy at 8:15.  If you know that you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, please contact the homeroom teacher and the front office.

Scrips Program -You will receive information on this program next week as soon as we get all the details set.  Start to think ahead about how you can use this program to give gifts to office staff, co-workers, etc. with the earnings going towards your student's tuition and to school.  Stay tuned for more information.

PTL Meeting - The first official PTL meeting will be on Thurs., Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.  Parents who come to the meeting will get a dress code pass for their students and the class with the highest percentage of participants will win a pizza party.  The runner-up class will get an ice cream party.  Parents, this is a great way to connect with other parents and be a part of the BCA community to help with school events.  It also gives you the opportunity to find out what is happening in the school and the goals we are working hard to meet.

Thank You - Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in educating your students to love learning, love each other, and especially develop a love for God and all that He has created us to be.  The gift of your students is such a blessing to all of us.
