Troop 20916 from Salina purchased items for children in need in their community and was among the troops that won credit to GSKH shops for turning in a 2015-16 Community Service Report.
Community Service Reports
Troops can win $50 in GSKH Shop credit!

Girl Scout troops are well known in their own towns for the wonderful community service projects they generously perform each year, but we want EVERYONE to know ALL the good works troops are doing all over Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland. The Community Service Report is a form used to collect the information needed to share the OUTSTANDING acts of kindness Girl Scouts give throughout the year! Plus, troops who submit the Community Service Report are entered into a quarterly drawing for $50 credit in a GSKH Shop. Winners for 2015-16 Girl Scout membership year include:

1st Quarter: Troop 10264 in Hays
2nd Quarter: Troop 20916 in Salina
3rd Quarter: Troop 40517 in Valley Center

The fourth-quarter winner could be YOUR troop! It's not too late to submit your troop's Community Service Report for the next drawing on Oct. 1, 2016. Send in your report today!
Last chance for Fall Opportunity Sale training!
Sales start Sept. 30

Fall Opportunity Sale training is wrapping up! If you are a NEW leader who still needs training, please reach out to your Product Sales Specialist ! Right now is the time to be meeting with your parents and going over all sale material.

The Fall Opportunity Sale is a great way for troops to earn proceeds early in the Girl Scout year to ensure plenty of girl-led activities happen all year long! Additionally, this sale introduces girls to financial skills they will use throughout their lives. Troops earn 20 percent of the sale proceeds, and girls earn fun recognitions, too.
Superstar volunteer in Colby
Celebrating 15 years with Girl Scouts!

Penny Cline from Colby was recently recognized for her service to Girl Scouts. She has been a Troop Leader, Service Unit Manager, Service Unit Product Sales Organizer, Event Coordinator for local and council events, Council Cupboard Manager and much more over the last 15 years. She's taken girls on many adventures and mentored lots of volunteers.

Penny's daughter graduated from high school several years ago, and Penny continued to provide leadership for girls and adults, but this year she has decided to step down. At the reception in her honor, she stated she "feels like Colby Girl Scouts is in good hands with the current slate of volunteers" and that is why she is comfortable with the decision she has made.

Girls from her Junior Troop 10157 were in attendance to share their favorite memories of Penny being their leader. The NW Prairie Girls Service Unit presented Penny with a plaque and the girls gave her a book filled with pictures. Thank you, Penny, for all of your service and support of Girl Scouts!
Coming Soon: Webinars by grade level
New for troop leaders!

The program department is gearing up to roll out new informative webinars for troop leaders! This will give troop leaders the opportunity to learn what's new, gain new ideas, and share best practices. They will be presented by Girl Scout grade level (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, etc.) and cover a variety of topics. These monthly webinars will be called "SPARK-(Insert Level)." Right now, we want to hear from you! What topics, best practices, or helpful hints would you like to hear about? Please email Jennifer Koftan at jkoftan@gskh.org with ideas.
Last Chance!
Apply by Sept. 30 to be a National Delegate

Girl Scouts who are 14 years old or older along with adult members are invited to represent Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland at the National Convention on Oct. 4 - 8, 2017, in Columbus, Ohio. We realize that seems like a long ways away, but the National Council Delegate applications are due Sept. 30, 2016. This is a wonderful opportunity for an older Girl Scout to show off her leadership skills by learning more about Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland and being part of the Girl Scout democratic process! Additionally, it is a leadership role that looks great on a job resume and college application. For more information about how to apply to be a National Delegate, go to our website.
Girl Scouts' creativity shines at Kansas State Fair
Increase in Girl Scout entries

Sunday wrapped up the 2016 Kansas State Fair that included an increase in Girl Scout entries, according to Kris Griffith, the fair employee who manages the Girl Scout house on the fairgrounds. Kansas Girl Scouts' creativity was on display with projects filling the walls and shelves inside the Girl Scout house. Every year, Girl Scouts from across the state submit their projects to the state fair. The projects on display showcase a multitude of talents, service and leadership. Competitive categories just for Girl Scouts cover a wide range of interests, from artwork, jewelry, baking, First Aid kits, woodworking, comic strips, knitting, photography, computer graphics, mosaics, candles, scrapbooking, and more. Remind girls in your troop to save their projects for next year's state fair to compete for a ribbon and possibly a cash reward. GSKH Shops also have state fair patches available for purchase. Looking for photos from this year's fair? Check out our photo album on Flickr.
