NEW AT THE MUSEUM!

The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette is introducing a new program, Friday Night Live.

One Friday a month, the m useum will welcome the community to a free live performance in the galleries. First up is Brazilian Kaleidoscope from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 30.

Opening reception for bicentennial exhibits An opening reception will be held Friday, Sept. 23, to launch the Indiana Artists: Bicentennial Members Exhibit and display of the first Indiana state flag. The reception will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Art by the river Be sure to stop by the Art Museum's activity station at Art on the Wabash, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Tapawingo Park in West Lafayette.

A Bicentennial Legacy, Artsmart: Indiana | Through Nov. 17 | This exhibit captures 200 years of Indiana art. It includes rare works from private and public collections that are included in ArtSmart: Indiana, which tells Indiana's history through its artists.

First Indiana Flag | Sept. 23-Nov. 13 | In conjunction with the state's 200th birthday, the Indiana Historical Bureau has agreed to lend the first state flag to the museum in recognition of it being part of ArtSmart: Indiana for 30 years.

Indiana Artists: Bicentennial Members Exhibit | Sept. 23-Nov. 27 | Indiana Artists is a juried artist organization. The exhibit is held every fall at locations that rotate each year. It was last held at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette in 2010.

Absolute Beginning Watercolor with Rebecca Brody, 1-3 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 1-Oct. 6.

Glass Fusing for Kids with Sharon Owens at Inspired Fire, 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Beginning Glass Fusing or Flameworking Workshop for youths and adults age 14 and up with Sharon Owens at Inspired Fire, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 10.

Pottery 1: Intro to Clay for Adults, 6-9 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 12-Nov. 7.

Pottery II: Intermediate Clay for Adults, 9 a.m.-noon or 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 15-Nov. 10.

Pottery III: Advanced Studio Pottery for Adults, 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 5-Jan. 3.

Monotype Printmaking with Jennifer Reitmeyer, 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 27-Nov. 1.

Kids' Art with Elizabeth Lincourt, fourth Saturday of every month. Participants study an artist or art movement and then do an art project inspired by that artist or movement. September is Calder, 1-3 p.m. Sept. 24.

Magic Circle Collage with Bonnie Zimmer for youth and adults age 13 and up, 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

Ongoing classes that can be joined at anytime include Live Model Open Studio, Watercolors with Lorie Amick, Pastels with Ron Burgess, Drop-In Beginning Oil with Anne Parks, Yoga at the Museum with Debra Steinhauer.

ART LEAGUE

The museum's Art League is sponsoring a mural for the interior of the new Food Finders Food Bank building at 1204 Greenbush St. The mural is for two walls in the facility's Welcoming Room. The Art League will award $1,200 to fund the art work. The deadline to submit a proposal is Sept. 19. Applications are available at

MEMBERS ONLY

2nd Century Club members, who contribute $1,000 or more annually to the Art Museum, are invited to an annual private behind-the-scenes art tour to another location; a club members-only annual dinner; private champagne exhibition previews and meetings with the artists; priority invitations to Art Museum special events and tours.

Art Museum members always get a 10% discount on studio art classes and purchases from the Museum Shop and the Columbian Park Zoo Gift Shop.

The Art Museum has joined the Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums (ROAM) which provides members at the Friend level and above with free admission and a 10 percent shopping discount at more than 200 museums, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art.This is in addition to the museum's ongoing membership in the North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) organization with more than 800 participating museums.
