Mark Sieber. We are pleased to announce that Mark Sieber has joined the firm as Manager of Global Consulting. He was a Partner at our affiliate, EBP in Switzerland, before joining EDR Group in Boston. Mark brings over 24 years of experience in the fields of urban development, regional planning and multimodal transportation planning. He is now working to bring Swiss and broader European expertise in urban transportation to the US, and extend EDR Group's economic expertise to European clients.

Maritime Commerce. EDR Group, in association with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, conducted a comprehensive economic impact assessment of investments in the Illinois River system and marine locks and dams. The study examined the magnitude of workforce, business activity, and economic growth potential associated with the waterway facilities -- for 22 affected counties and the State of Illinois. The analysis considered forecasted traffic expected under each of five lock extension and deferred maintenance scenarios. Implications for the economies of other states were also assessed.

Transit Impact Case Studies. For the Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP), EDR Group produced the "Economic Impact Case Study Tool for Transit" (Report 186). The report presents the results of a project aimed at creating the prototype for a searchable, web-based database of public transit investment projects and their associated, transit-driven economic and land development outcomes. Prototype case studies were also developed for bus, BRT, light rail and heavy rail projects. This information is intended to inform future planning efforts for transit-related projects. Read More

The Panama Canal expansion. The canal project doubled the capacity of the Panama Canal, and opened to ships on June 26, 2016. As a national leader in port and waterways economics, and the authors of the Panama Canal Expansion Study: Phase 1 Report, EDR Group's port experts were interviewed and quoted by a large number of national media outlets regarding the implications of the expansion on the global trade economy.
