SAMJAM BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
The 2016 SamJam Bluegrass Festival kicked off at the Pike County Fairgrounds on Thursday, September 1, with a preview event which included a Bluegrass Scramble performance by local musicians, a performance by New Again, of Bainbridge, and Highway 52, featuring a special appearance by Dave Evans.
According to event organizer Rick Greene, the first day of the event was a success, and he hopes to continue the event for years to come in Pike County.
"We are really happy with the way this has come together," said Greene. "I had a vision in my mind of what I thought the event would look like, and now that it has come together, it is pretty close to what we pictured 22 months ago."
Many people have worked behind the scenes to transform the festival from a dream to reality, said Greene.
"My partner (Sam Karr) and I are ramped up and excited because this has been so much work to get to this point, and so many people from the community have been involved and have helped here and there," he said. "I feel really proud of our community. We are getting ready to put on a great show and think people are going to have a great time, and it would not have been possible without a lot of cooperation from a lot of people in town. It makes you feel really solid about where you're from and where you live."
Greene said he has heard many compliments from those in attendance about the quality lineup and venue.
"I've heard countless compliments about the Pike County Fairgrounds from bluegrass music veterans and people who travel to a lot of bluegrass festivals, and they are saying that our lineup and facilities are as good as they've seen, and that makes us feel we have something here that is going to have some staying power," he said. "We're fantastically proud of that."
