PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Dear Lakeview Families,

I would like to encourage all of our Lakeview families and PTSA members to attend the upcoming general membership meeting of the Lakeview PTSA on Thursday, January 14th @ 7pm at Lakeview. One of the important items that will be shared will be how we are working to improve teaching and learning school-wide through collaborative best practices for grade level or subject area teacher teams.

As they say, "None of us are as smart as all of us," and that is as true in education as business, medicine, or any other professional field. If we are to ensure that all students learn at high levels it takes a team of teachers using meaningful student data to plan and respond to unique student needs, a process we call PLCs, or Professional Learning Communities. Providing teachers training to enhance collaborative practices will help us reach our school vision of "Students empowered to achieve success" and the PTSA purpose of "promot[ing] the health, welfare, safety and education of children and youth in home, school and community."

Ms. Westra began this work last year at Lakeview and we are continuing that journey with an increasing number of our Lakeview teachers receiving training in collaborative best practices. I encourage you to attend next Thursday's meeting @ 7pm to learn more about our next steps as a school in improving teacher collaboration, along with other important PTSA and school updates.

Thanks,

Steve

P.S. We are still in need of volunteers for our annual vision and hearing screening. Please consider volunteering some time next week to support this critical screening process:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c49a4a829a3fc1-lakeview

Thanks - Steve

Important Open House on 1/11

Did you know the Kirkland City Council is trying to get buses or trains running on the Cross Kirkland Corridor trail?  There is an informational meeting on January 11 th  from 6 to 9PM at the Lake Washington Institute of Technology, Room W404.  T he city councilmembers will be there as well as members from the Sound Transit board to give information and answer questions.

The nonprofit group called Save Our Trail is trying to get as many people to attend the open house as possible, wearing green if you are in favor of keeping mass transit off the trail and keeping buses on I-405 instead.  We need to act now if we want to stop the process before it starts, as Sound Transit is currently drafting their proposal for the Sound Transit 3 initiative that will show up on next November's ballot.  There are three different proposals that are being considered for the proposal and which affect Kirkland: E-03 (Light Rail on the trail), E-06 (Bus Rapid Transit on the trail) and E-02 (Bus Rapid Transit on I-405). If you want to read more about why buses and pedestrians don't mix and what the other options are, you can go to saveourtrail.org

Please attend the informational meeting on January 11th , and don't forget to wear green!  Click here for more information regarding public events such as this meeting.
