Tuesday-UofA Homebuyers Help Event
Left to Right: Colleen, Suzanne, Joanne, Chad
PROMOTING JEFFERSON PARK FOR HOME OWNERSHIPTuesday at the UA, a very successful event brought homebuyers to get mortgage assistance in buying homes in central Tucson.

Five central neighborhoods including Jefferson Park shared information about their "hood". Realtors and mortgage companies were on hand to help prospective buyers.

"...this amazing loan program provides up to 20% or $20,000  to homebuyers who make under 92k annually, buying within the City of Tucson, and

plan to owner-occupy for five years or more.  (the down payment/closing cost assistance is a "silent" second, no interest, no payments, and fully forgiven at the 5th year)...Major brokers are participating (VIP mortgage, Nova Homeloans, Sunstreet...) but credit unions are not.   Spread the word! "  says S. Dennis.

Visit pimatucsonhome.org for more information or call 882-5591, ext. 126.  See the AZ Daily Star article on our website jeffersonpark.info-click link on right hand column.
Friday - National Parks - Park(ing) Celebration
BIKING THE HEALTH/HISTORY WALK
First event was biking along the proposed loop  to the site of the proposed NPS Park at  Grant and Santa Rita.  The grant for the park was submitted last year, won highest ranking in the state. Fifty proposals  are now being considered at the national level.
WALKING WITH A DOC
Dr Wahl and Banner folks arrived to walk with the Doc and talk a little about the history of Jefferson Park.
KEEPING JEFFERSON PARK HISTORY ALIVE
Aerial photos of Polo village and the old Polo Fields were of particular interest to former Jefferson Park resident, Marko Hansen, who remembers attending Jefferson Park School, shooting off rockets on the old Polo Field, and buying Batman cards, Bullet popscicles and Coca-Cola at Monterrey Market. The old Monterrey Market is located at Vine and Edison and was a favorite after-school stop for many.
Saturday- Banner, Sundt Construction Volunteer at IST
TOP SOIL FOR THE GARDEN...
Many volunteers from Banner and Sundt Construction and their families completed the final phases of the raised bed gardens for the students of  the International School.

Top soil dumped in the street had to be "wheelbarrowed" through the side gate into the beds.
FILLING THE RAISED BEDS
Bright green boxes repurposed by sundt from concrete forms were sealed and lined and filled Saturday morning with a seemingly endless round of wheelbarrows.

The hardworking crew of volunteers had the project finished before noon.  There are going to be some happy kids on Monday!

Saturday - Neighbors Volunteer at Park Clean Up
Third Saturdays at 7am...or when you can get there!
Three volunteers worked for a couple hours on Saturday morning at the beautiful little park on the east end of Edison.  Dubbed "Edison Plaza" the
little parklet is a delightful oasis of shade filled with butterflies, bird's nests and some overgrowth.  It will take a couple more Saturdays of work.

NEXT MONTH
Park Ave Meeting October 13
Thursday, October 13, 6pm, Ward III
Neighbors have expressed concerns about the now completed Park Avenue Enhancement Project. In 2008, five neighborhoods (Feldmans, Jefferson Park, Mountain/First, Hedrick Acres, and North University) wrote a grant sponsored by the City of Tucson. It was specifically for "provision of facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists, and landscaping and other scenic beautification".
The project manager, Gary Wittwer, will be meeting with the contiguous neighborhoods Thursday, October 13, 6 pm, Ward III, 1510 E Grant .  Neighbors can visit jeffersonpark.info to see the Summary of the 2008 proposal, the cost bid sheet, and early images of the proposed project  posted under the "projects" tab for Park Avenue Enhancement Project.

Hand caned Shaker-style rocker donation.

You can donate to the sale. The non-profit, Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc will provide receipts for donations .

Proceeds from the sale will go to neighborhood projects. E-mail pics to jdchama@msn.com.
This sale, in concert with the Sabaku T-shirt sale,  is the neighborhood's opportunity to fund the many projects which have been suggested.  Neighborhood entrance signs, a traffic circle to abate the flooding at Cherry and Linden, little free libraries, and the bike/walk loop are just a few that have been suggested.  It was fundraisers like this, by neighbors, that funded the $38,000 Historic Nomination fee and the $4,000 for the street signs.     (J. Daniels)
More Red Tag Insights from the UA WILDCAT

"THIRSTY THURSDAY" SECOND ONLY TO SATURDAY FOR RED TAGS:
A quote from the AZ Wildcat can help Jefferson Park residents understand the mid-week parties being experienced simply by the nicknames: "The facts back up "Thirsty Thursday" and "Turn up Tuesday" as more than bad nicknames. While the weekend remains the prime time to throw a party-with 30 red tags issued on Saturdays-Thursday stands as the second-most popular time to party, with 17 red tags itself. "

Jefferson Park has been tracking 911 calls since Aug 2015.  Three categories are being tracked, "loud parties", "loud music", and "red Tag".                                       (Excerpts from AZ WildCat News, August 26)
