Holy Rosary School

Dear Holy Rosary School Families,

Today the 8th grade prepared a powerful Mass for the student body. It was our first School Mass of the year. Fr. Bart presided over Mass and gave a very inspirational homily about the start of the school year. Ask your children if they remember what he said the three P's for a new year are, they are sure to remember. I bet they can also tell you what happens when you aren't your best. Fr. Bart's example of the balloon and the pin was well executed and very impactful for the students.

As we celebrate Peace Builder Week, this is a great time to talk to your children about what it means to be a Peace Builder. Have them recite the Peace Builder Pledge for you and try and say it with them.

Peace Builder Pledge

I am a Peace Builder.

I Pledge...

To praise people

To give up put downs

To include and be a friend to all

To notice and apologize for the hurts I have caused

to help others

I will build peace at home, at school and in my

 community each day.

We are a community of Peace Builders.

Blessings,

Tim Hooke

Picking Up Students

When picking up your student in the afternoon we ask that you do not park in the Parish Center drive way waiting for the gates to open. We have had complaints that people are unable to access the Parish Center parking lot during this time. The gates open 30 minutes before school is out.

Please do not make a left hand turn onto A street when leaving the parking lot by the Church. There is a sign posted instructing "No Left Hand Turns." This is a huge safety issue and backs up cars trying to leave.

Thank you.

September 17, 2016 4:00-10:00 PM

The Harvest Faire has gotten a late start this year with a number of parishioners gathering
together to make it a success! It will have a different look but it will have the same awesome
food booths of the past and games that will entice the young people. Kiddieland will be there for
the children and Pull Tabs and Bingo will be available for the young at heart. Our annual Candy Booth, our YLI baked goods and our Country Store will be available for shoppers.
We need your help for a variety of Harvest Faire Activities. Please call the rectory at 747-4020 or
email Jackie at hrreled@aol.com if you can help. This is what we need:

1. Different types of homemade candy for the Candy Booth or sugar and chocolate chips. If you
have questions call Allison at 925-642-5404 to get more information about the Candy Booth.

2. If you are a baker and want to help the YLI they can use cookies, cakes, pies. Call the rectory
to tell us what you can bring.

3. The Country Store needs items to sell. We especially like  homemade items but will take other goodies as well. Call Jackie  at 757-4020 ex. 19.

4. We need adults and teens to work in the Game Booths and  Bingo. We need an adult for every booth for both Friday and  Saturday. We also need helpers for Bingo.

5. If you are interested in helping with set up and electrical, call  Jackie ad she will connect with the right folks.

WE NEED YOU...MANY OF YOU...in order to do this.

Please offer a few hours of your time and energy

Where Are You on the Journey?
As I think about our parish theme for this year - "Be Disciples -- Make Disciples" - I would say there are four major steps or stages in this journey to be a disciple, at least to begin with. The first step is having some kind of encounter with Jesus. It can happen once or several times; it can be dramatic or subtle, it can happen all at once or over a period of time, but it changes us because we begin to realize just how much Jesus loves us and how much he has done for us. We feel it in a palpable way. Have you ever had that kind of experience?

This experience leads us to the second step of discipleship: we begin to have a personal relationship with the Lord. Now he is no longer a distant figure that we have heard about in church or read about in the Bible; he is a real person and we feel him close to us. We begin to have an interest in religious things; we begin to think about and read about and wonder about God, the Bible, our Catholic faith, the Mass, etc. We begin to put time and energy into this interest and into this relationship with Jesus. And we begin to have a desire to pray, not just memorized prayers like the Our Father and Hail Mary - as good as they are - but we begin to want simply to pray to God from our heart. And we no longer just want to ask God for things; but we also want to thank him and praise him for what he has done for us and given to us.

The third step of discipleship is that we begin to review our lives in the light of our relationship with Jesus, his teachings in the gospel and the teachings of the Church. We look at our relationships with spouse, children, parents, family and friends and ask ourselves: How am I doing in these relationships? Am I a good spouse, parent, son or daughter, brother or sister, friend? Do I need to change? We also look at our activities with new eyes and ask ourselves: Am I doing anything that doesn't fit with Jesus' teachings, anything that makes me feel bad, anything that's just not right? If we are involved in questionable or immoral activities, we begin to feel the tension inside of us and realize that something has got to change. This leads us to a moment of decision in our lives where we have to choose: What is more important to me - these things I am doing or my relationship with the Lord along with the happiness and meaning I have found in him?No one else can make that decision for us, and, sometimes, it takes a few wrong decisions before we make the right one.
The fourth step of discipleship is a desire to serve God and others and a desire to share our faith and this relationship with Jesus that has changed everything. We all do it in different ways, but the bottom line is that we just want others to experience what we have found in our lives: a sense of joy, meaning, peace and a new perspective from which we can look at life.

We can experience these stages in the journey to discipleship all at once or over a period of time; we can go through them in a different order or go back and forth from one to another several times. But the question remains for us to ask ourselves again and again: Where am I on my journey?
