Love Thy Neighbor

Meeting the neighbors

Epic Church, Shelby Township, MI, is new to their neighborhood. Recently they hosted an event to let their neighbors know that the church is planted to serve them and to be a light in the community. Their Block Party, hosted by many hard-working volunteers, did exactly that and more.

Because of the support of the congregation, Epic Church:

• Gave away 157 backpacks to children in need.
• Blessed kids in their community and helped them to get ready and be equipped for the coming school year.
• Met their neighbors.
• Made deeper connections with one another.
• Had the opportunity to pray over people that came to the block party.
• Provided great fun and food to their neighbors.
• Expanded the Lord's kingdom.

The kids enjoyed all the fun games, bounce house, face painting and great food that they had, but more than anything they felt loved by everyone. The outcome of this event is a reflection of the ever-increasing dedication and enthusiasm of all the volunteers and their constant and faithful support.

Supporting our service members

LCMS Rural and Small Town Mission (RSTM) will host a free webinar, "Ministry to the Armed Forces in Rural and Small Town Settings," which will be presented by Chaplain Steve Hokana, LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces, at 1 p.m. CST, Thursday, September 15, 2016.

The webinar will address the following topics and more: Have you considered what opportunities are available for congregations to reach out to our service members? Are there ways to reach out to these families through witness and mercy at the local level, whether it is the families of loved ones deployed or assisting those who have served to reintegrate back home with their family, their church and their community?

Join and discuss ways to equip and encourage members in compassionate care and witness outreach to all military connected people (active, reserve, retired, veterans and their loved ones).

A New Name

 

Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel, Gracepoint to Crosspoint. After some prayerful consideration, this four-year-old congregation in Sahuarita, AZ, has changed its name. The decision came after considerable confusion with Grace Church (Evangelical Free) next door. When this group of missionaries began meeting in 2009 and chose the name Gracepoint, they were meeting across town in a high school cafeteria with no confusion. Wanting to retain their original identity, the membership agreed on the name Crosspoint, recognizing that it is at the foot of the cross where our sins were paid for and our salvation was won. At the cross of Christ our Lord, we continue the same Word and Sacrament ministry to our community. To God alone be the glory!

Happy anniversary!

Christ the King Lutheran Church of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, celebrated their 75th Anniversary with a special service and pig roast on July 10, 2016. Three hundred people were in attendance for a wonderful day of worship, fellowship, and celebration. Included in picture are Pastor Timothy Holzerland (former Associate Pastor, 1995-2007), Pastor Randy Boelter, and Christ the King's Pastor Emeritus, The Rev. Dr. Joseph Fabry.

Call Received

The Rev. Bradley P. Urlaub, Faith, Arlington Heights, IL, has received a call to St. Mark's, Janesville, WI.
