Government and Conservation Program Highlights
|
Forests certified to the SFI Forest Management Standard cover more than 280 million acres/113 million hectares, stretching from Canada's boreal forest to the U.S. South. This scale means SFI has an ever-growing impact through its partnerships with conservationists and government officials. The conference will examine emerging trends in conservation, such as quantifying environmental values and taking a landscape-scale approach. Government officials will speak about topics ranging from engaging large landowners to gaining market acceptance.
This year's conference will feature four engaging sessions that will give you an inside look into the latest conservation trends and the government policy positions you need to know about. These thought-provoking sessions will feature insights into:

Rationales for certifying publicly-owned forestlands to SFI
- Coordinated conservation of natural resources across large landscapes
- Ecological, social and environmental benefits of well-managed forests
- Shared partnerships, policy options and planning tools for different levels of government

- Analyzing fiber supplies and wildlife habitat on family woodlands

Management Solutions on Large Landscapes:
The evolving concept of "landscape-scale conservation" recognizes that successful, large-scale conservation efforts must include elements and incentives to engage a wide variety of ownership types and management influences. Federal representatives from the U.S. and Canada will speak about focusing on partnerships in large landscapes.

Linking Science and the Supply Chain -- Why Conservation Impact Matters:

American Forest Foundation Update:
Learn about AFF's Southern Initiative for Wood and Wildlife. There will also be an overview of a forthcoming report that includes an analysis of fiber supplies and wildlife habitat on family woodlands. Updates on other regional projects, including AFF's Florida landscape management plan pilot project and their coordination with SFI to increase small-land certification, will also be featured.
