The Skokie Home Scoop - September 16, 2016 |
Dear Skokie Families,
As the school year begins to move ahead full steam, I know there are a few things that you may be wanting more information on as we head into the Fall. Over the last two years, Skokie has greatly increased its after school offerings for students based on a growing interest in staying connected to the building, our staff, and the activities we can make available to our students. This year, our district was able to transition what had been a paper/pencil version of tracking registration, attendance and payment to a more streamlined online process. At this time, only After School Sports, Climbing Club and Cross Country are up and running, but I wanted to update everyone on the progress of the others, as many have inquired. Teachers are now able to put in the information necessary to get clubs started, which means we are that much closer to offering online registration for our other clubs. Keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks for a registration link.
Additionally, you all know that this year is a pilot year for a new schedule model. We look forward to involving students, staff and parents in the collection of feedback as we move through the pilot as we explore the benefits and shortcomings of a new use of our instructional day. As a means of providing some initial background on the pilot, we have put together some helpful information that can be accessed by
clicking here. This link will also be available on our Skokie website for future access as a resource. Some of the new features in this piloted schedule model a value of student voice, interest and the curiosity that most inspires authentic learning. The idea to explore a new model came about with inspiration from our district's shared vision and the challenge to be innovative in providing meaningful and experiential learning opportunities for our students.
As you head into the weekend, ask your 5th or 6th grader what they have most enjoyed about the start of this school year, and what they are most looking forward to. Enjoy the beautiful weather and the time together with your families.
Most Sincerely,
Kelly Tess
