Realism Needed About the Benefits and Risks of Taking Part in HIV Cure Studies

A significant proportion of people living with HIV would be willing to take part in a study towards a cure for HIV, research presented at the 21st International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016) in Durban, South Africa last month shows. However some potential participants may not fully understand that taking part in an early-phase study is highly unlikely to afford any personal clinical benefit, but might have the potential to cause harm.

Clinton Pushed LGBT Rights, Despite Foundation's Anti-Gay Donors

The Clinton Foundation has come intense media scrutiny partly as a result of donations it received from countries with anti-LGBT laws and questions of "pay-for-play" at the State Department, but LGBT advocates are defending the organization, asserting it has worked to advance human rights.

Microaggression and Bias in the HIV Community -- and What We Can Do About It

Have you ever had that experience where someone says something that was meant to be neutral, or funny or even complimentary, but it felt like a dig at your (or someone else's) race, gender, HIV status, sexuality or some other part of who they are?

Milwaukee, After the Fires

In mid-August Milwaukee experienced several days of unrest due to the police killing of 23-year-old Sylville Smith. Here, community leaders reflect on the before and after.

Obamacare Marketplaces Are in Trouble. What Can Be Done?

It has been a hard couple of weeks for Obamacare. The law's online marketplaces - where people were supposed to be able to easily shop for health insurance - have been suffering from high-profile defections and double-digit premium increases.

Obama to Guest-Edit Wired Magazine

It is perhaps only fitting that a president who rose to power by harnessing the internet would guest-edit one of the nation's leading technology and science magazines on the way out.

Founded in May of 1999, the Black AIDS Institute is the only national HIV/AIDS think tank focused exclusively on Black people. The Institute's Mission is to stop the AIDS pandemic in Black communities by engaging and mobilizing Black institutions and individuals in efforts to confront HIV. The Institute interprets public and private sector HIV policies, conducts trainings, offers technical assistance, disseminates information and provides advocacy mobilization from a uniquely and unapologetically Black point of view.

Support the Black Aids Institute through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC# 12320). The Institute holds the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence for meeting the highest standards of public accountability.
