The Nonprofit Council 2016 Social Media/Advocacy Workshop

Alliance for Justice will deliver a special training to teach nonprofits about the rules of nonprofit advocacy in the digital age. Nonprofit organizations can bring the concerns of their communities to policy makers and elected officials and help inform and encourage voters safely. But in order to do so, they should understand the rules associated with online communications and social media advocacy.

This event will address the legal rules associated with online nonprofit advocacy so that groups can boldly speak out about the causes they care about. It will include a discussion of lobbying definitions, limits, and election season advocacy rules in addition to several tips and tricks to make sure your nonprofit is effectively and lawfully utilizing online communications to advance your mission.

Workshop Facilitator

Natalie Ossenfort, Director - AFJ Texas Office

Natalie works with nonprofit organizations to strengthen their advocacy capacity and understanding of the rules of nonprofit advocacy and lobbying. She previously helped to create and run the Innocence Project of Texas, a non-profit organization dedicated to freeing those wrongfully convicted of crimes in the state. At IPTX, Natalie held both Executive Director and Chief Staff Attorney positions, and she specialized in the litigation of cases involving the use of DNA evidence. She also worked with the organization to successfully advocate on behalf of reforms designed to reduce the number of wrongful convictions and assist those reentering society after lengthy terms of unjust confinement.

Natalie obtained her law degree from the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in Fort Worth. During law school, she served as a Notes and Comments editor for the Texas Wesleyan Law Review and received multiple national awards for excellence in appellate advocacy. She earned her undergraduate B.A. from Trinity University in San Antonio, where she majored in Political Science and graduated cum laude.
